Wandering around Zihuatanejo

We got Igor packed up and drove him over to the main Ixtapa hotel zone just after 9:00am to meet our long time friends Dave and Maggie. They live in Toronto and have rented a two bedroom condo for a month here in Ixtapa.

We were able to park Igor on the condo property, and they showed us around their "home" for the next month. They only arrived on Saturday.

The day started off really nice...

Ixtapa hotel zone beach.

There are a lot of these fellows around.

We visited for a while, then we all hopped into Igor for the short drive to Zihuatanejo. We parked Igor at the El Manglar Restaurant at Playa la Ropa. They have an RV section and we had originally planned to stay overnight there, but the guy wasn't around to talk price. But we left Igor there, and went for a walk on the beach and into town.

Playa la Ropa is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico.

Are we in Copenhagen?

Crocodile statue.

We went to the local market for lunch and had garlic shrimp!

Scenery around town.

The have made a nice malecon since the last time we were here.

Not many pedestrians on this pedestrian street!

Fishing boats.

The basketball court.

Zihua!

Clouds have moved in.

The pier.

We said goodbye in town, and they headed back to Ixtapa. We walked back to Igor, and the guy was there at the RV Park at El Manglar Restaurant. But they wouldn't budge from the 350 peso price, and we didn't need any hookups... just parking. So we moved on and ended up at a Pemex gas station parked for free. Not the quietest night with dogs barking, but sometimes that's what you get for free!

But, we had overnighted right at the intersection to the road that heads up into the mountains, so we are a little bit closer to our destination today. It's still a five and a half hour drive though, so we better get going!

And in Canada...

  1. Sometimes you just have to walk away! Campeche’s Club Nautico RV Park raised their rates from 250 pesos one year (2012) to 450 the next! They refused my offer of 300 but we did settle on 350 if we stayed a week, a lot of money at the time but we were both recovering from bad colds and were due a break and some quiet TV time. It is a great park with saunas, infinity pool, huge showers and 50 amp service. Campeche has some great seafood restaurants and we tried several of them. We got the bonus of a wind/rain storm one night that had the motorhome rocking and soaked with salt spray from the Gulf! Luckily there was lots of water pressure and I washed it the next day.

    1. Absolutely and we are almost always prepared to do that.

We know which campground you are talking about but we have never stayed there before but yeah, that is certainly a huge jump in price in just one year. We really like Campeche, it is one of the few places in the Yucatan we enjoyed. It is such a pretty and colourful town.

    1. You are welcome. If you want to see more pictures of Zihuatanejo, you just have to use the search feature on our blog and type in Zihuatanejo, it should bring up a number of posts from our previous visits here. We really like Zihuatanejo, it is a pretty town and has some lovely beaches, it is just too hot for us.

We are getting ready for the mine tour as I type. They will be along to pick us up in a half hour or so and we are pretty excited to see a real working mine.
