So we wanted to go back at a better time of year!
So we've been in touch with the campervan rental company and have booked our trip. We've also booked the flights.
It's not that easy to get from Mexico City to Kyrgyzstan! We leave May 17th and fly Mexico City to Madrid then to Ankara, Turkiye, then to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Our flight route May 17-20.
MEX to MAD to ESB to BSZ (FRU).
We will have one night in Madrid, then a night in a hotel in Bishkek before picking up our campervan.
We're dealing with Alex and Vlad at UAZ Buhanka Rental. They have a facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/buhankaforrent/. Alex is the organizing and contact guy and he's based in the United States, and Vlad is the guy on the ground in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Alex has been great to deal with, and he sent us a lot of planning information.
They rent out UAZ Buhanka vans that are set up for camping. These are Russian built 4x4 vans that drive like a tank and go anywhere! Cost is anywhere between €90 and €125 per day depending on time of year and how long you're keeping it.
Did I mention they go anywhere?
Easy to find wild camping in the middle of nowhere!
We've booked one for a full month. This time, we will be able to show you the real Kyrgyzstan! We pick up the van on May 21st, and return it on June 19th.
Despite being on 164 airplanes over the past 14 years, this will also be our first ever trip "around the world"! We don't yet know where we're going after Kyrgyzstan, but we will continue heading east. Mongolia? Nepal? Japan? Not sure. But we know we can get a direct flight back to Mexico from Tokyo, so that will be our last stop before heading "home".
Pretty excited about this upcoming adventure!

Great deal on this 8 Pack of Heavy Duty Storage Bags.
And in Canada...

Sounds like a big adventure coming up for both of you.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does and we are pretty excited about it!
DeleteWOW! Can't wait to read about this one!
ReplyDeleteAnd we can't wait to do it and then be able to tell you all about it! :-)
DeleteWow! What happened to Belize and contuing on to South America?
ReplyDeleteThat is still happening but we said that trip is going to take us a number of years to do. We don't want to travel when the weather there is miserable and rainy season generally starts in May. We are hoping that we will enter into Belize in April or so but then we will drive back into Mexico and head up into the mountains again, probably up to Oaxaca City and find a place to leave Igor until October or so when we will continue our drive south and into Guatemala. Our issue is mostly because many of these countries you can't leave your vehicle there and fly out or if you can you can only do it for a maximum of 30 days or less. We are in no rush and we really want to enjoy our journey. :-)
