Mexico is no longer the bargain it was, but it's still far cheaper than Canada!

Our week here is going by quickly. In fact, time itself seems to be going by quickly... we're already 1/3 of the way through January!

We walked into town the last two days. Ruth's cheap phone was having charge cable connection problems, so we needed to find a cellphone repair place.

And we did. A half hour fix cost 350 pesos ($27 CAD, $20 USD). But at least it's done and it seems to be working properly.

Etzatlan is famous for its Cielo Tejido (Crochet Sky)

Several of the streets are decorated this way.

We just happened to be there around lunchtime and Etzatlan has lots of great little places to eat. So we found a comida casera place that's operated out of someone's home. Just a husband and wife team. We ordered some enchiladas rojas de puerco and while we were waiting, the guy brought us each a sapote fruit.

Sapote fruit.

Sometimes called chocolate persimmon, or chocolate pudding fruit.

Yummy enchiladas. We were stuffed!

The central plaza is really pretty.

We stopped at the butcher to pick up a couple of things.

Sunrise Friday morning.

Our host Bonnie has a big orb weaving spider at the front of her house.

It's a female, and she has built a beautiful web.

Beautiful colors.

Friday is market day in this area, so we walked in to town again to get our weekly fruits and veggies.

Everything for 230 pesos ($18 CAD, $13 USD). Not bad.
Including the bag of potatoes you can't see behind the broccoli, and the two corn cake things on the left, and the mamey fruit .

Mexico is becoming more expensive for us though. The peso is doing well, and the Canadian dollar is not.

In Canadian dollar terms, Mexico is now 10% more expensive than it was one year ago. And you can add inflation on top of that. Mexico is no longer the bargain it was when we first started coming here, but it's still  a lot cheaper than Canada!

  1. We agree. We have just spent a week in Mexico City and are now in La Paz. The price of most things seems to be more than at home in SC. I know we are staying in tourist towns but are surprised at the costs. It’s been years since we’ve been to Mexico but still remember sitting on the beach drinking 25 cent beers. Those days are gone. Lol
