The aquarium, and Veracruz city at night

The plan was to get to the Aquarium close to opening time at 10:00am, but because we decided to walk there we were actually closer to 11:00am. There was a bit of a lineup for tickets, but only for twenty minutes or so.

Tickets cost 170 pesos ($13.40 CAD, $9.75 USD) per person.

Veracruz Aquarium.

The first section has a few birds.

This is the same as the toucan we saw in the wild the other day!

Lots of different types of fish.

Funny looking thing!

Ruth, with a sawfish.

Definitely a weird creature.

Lionfish.

I took a video of some jellyfish. How can this even be alive? You can see right through it!

Another strange creature.

That was a fun way to spend a couple of hours for a change. We walked back to the hotel room and relaxed in the air conditioning for the rest of the afternoon. Watched the Blue Jays game, and had a nap. Around 8:00pm at night, we walked the malecon all the way to downtown.

Veracruz at night.

Because it's so hot during the day, the malecon and the parks come alive after the sun goes down. Children playing, people running or rollerblading, playing volleyball on the beach.

Institute of Oceanography and Lighthouse.

Lots of people out and about.

I took a video of some of the music and dancing going on at the central Plaza.
Turn up your volume...

We had a fun day and enjoyed our short visit to Verzcruz city. But it's too hot for us! We are headed up to the mountains on the backroads towards Oaxaca City.

The Shark Rocket Corded Vac is on sale again!

And in Canada...

  1. Great pictures and a good picture of the little seahorse. I laughed at the entrance of the
Aquarium. Enjoy the cooler weather when you leave.

    1. Thank you, we are glad you enjoyed the pictures and the post. It isn't often you get to see a seahorse so it was definitely nice to see this one. There were a few others as well but they were kinda hiding. Lol, yep that was a good entrance into the aquarium.

We haven't found any cooler weather yet!

  2. For some reason this is forcing me to post anonymously, but this is Emily. I think the second strange creature may be a nudibranch. Definitely weird but fascinating. I do love a good aquarium!

    1. I think but not sure that you have to be in your Google account to be able to post under your own name but I'm not positive on that. No worries, it is always nice when "anonymous" posts add their name at the end of their comment.

I am not sure which wierd creature you mean but when I google "nudibranch" it comes up with something that makes me think you are talking about the pink creature near the end of the aquarium pictures, if so then Elaine is correct with the name of Axoloti. I think we actually saw these somewhere in Mexico but I just can't remember where.

  3. The pink creature with legs is an Axolotl. Apparently it's critically endangered.
It's pictured on the 50-Peso note.

    1. You are correct that is exactly what that creature is. We didn't realize that it is on the 50 pesos note though! We had a look at one now though, it is funny that we never really looked closely at a 50 peso note before.
