Igor may never return to Valle de Bravo

We walked over to the nearby Soriana and picked up a few things there before walking back to Igor where he was parked at the Walmart in Orizaba. Then we did the 20 minute drive to Dos Tierras Campground.

We often use the iOverlander app to find suitable overnight spots for Igor. And many European overland rigs arrive at the port in Veracruz, so this is an easy stop for some of them.

The campground is new, and is a work in progress, but the family running it are so friendly and helpful. And in fact they are the highlight of the many reviews on iOverlander. It turns out that the parents are originally from Mexico, but had emigrated to Dallas, Texas more than 25 years ago and their three daughters were born in Dallas. So the girls all speak perfect English.

Three years ago, they decided to return to Mexico, and they have been in their current location here in Veracruz for about eight months. All five of them greeted us when we arrived.

We got ourselves settled, and then mid afternoon we were invited to a fiesta at a neighbors down the road!

As I said, the "campground" is a work in progress since they only bought the vacant property about eight months ago. So really, it's just a parking spot. But they will supply you with whatever you need... electricity, water, wifi, and hot showers.

But most of all, they supply you with friendship and information about the area. They really do make you feel like part of the family!

So... we've been trying to figure out what to do with Igor at the end of this month.

Let me explain our thinking... We could simply drive back to Valle de Bravo, but it's not an easy drive either up and around Mexico City, or south of Mexico City. And when we return to Mexico towards the end of October we want to begin heading into Central America. And if we drive Igor back to Valle de Bravo, we would have to do that same not easy drive around Mexico City again then.

So we had been thinking about leaving him at a storage place that we know of near Oaxaca City. The storage fees are actually cheaper than we would pay at "home" in Valle de Bravo, but we would have to bus or fly ourselves back and forth.

But, after talking to the family here, they will also let us store Igor here. It's a four and a half hour direct bus ride to Mexico City, so that's convenient. I'm a little worried about the summer humidity here in Veracruz, but maybe they will give him a bath every month or six weeks or so to prevent anything from growing on his roof. We had that happen to our old motorhome Sherman once when we left him near the Pacific coast. Anyhow, they are going to come up with a price for us and we'll decide from there.

In fact, Igor may never return to Valle de Bravo. Our current thinking is that once we reach Panama we will have him shipped by boat back to Canada. We have found an RV manufacturer in Chile, so maybe we will buy something new down there when the time comes. But that's a long way off, so it's just a thought!

In the meantime... we are heading over to join the family for breakfast!
