They are renting a 4x4 SUV type vehicle with a rooftop tent, and we are going to travel together for the next two weeks.
Our hostess said we could check in at 2:00pm, so we relaxed for a couple of hours by the river on Thursday morning before heading into the city.
We parked near the building, and then walked to a nearby brew pub for lunch. It turned out to be way better than expected, and we almost went back to the same place for dinner!
Like a slow cooker crock pot dish with some meat, potatoes, sour cream, and cheese.
And a stir fry dish. We shared them and they were both really good.
Yes, this is true!
We think it's funny when we see English signs like this in Russian speaking countries. Of course Kyrgyzstan is also a very Kyrgyz speaking country!
Lunch, including a beer, a lemonade, and the two dishes and a tip came to 1,440 SOM ($23 CAD, $16.50 USD).
We went and checked into our room, and rested and did some laundry for the balance of the afternoon. But before we knew it, it was dinner time. We honestly thought about going back to the same place for dinner, but figured we had better give another place a try.
So I used google maps to check the reviews for a dinner place and came across a Turkish restaurant that got fantastic reviews. We walked over there and were surprised when the hostess greeted us in English. It turns out she speaks Kyrgyz, Russian, Turkish, and English. Amazing!
My meal.
Ruth's meal.
This place was a little more expensive. With a beer, a glass of wine, and the tip, the bill was 1,975 SOM ($31.50 CAD, $22.50 USD) for the two of us.
I needed another one month supply of enalapril, my blood pressure medication. So we stopped into a 24 hour pharmacy near our guest house and I bought 40 tablets. This medication normally costs the equivalent of about $6 USD per month when we buy it in Mexico. Here, it cost 57 cents! Again, amazing.
Friday morning, Bjorn and Freya will fly into town and we will meet them at a grocery store where we will do some stocking up for our next two weeks exploring together!
