Welcome to Albania!

Our flight wasn't scheduled to leave Bologna until 4:30pm, so we had some time to go back into the city to have another look around.

And, we had to find a stationary shop with a printer because when I checked in for our flight, it said "one or more passengers on this booking needs to have a printed boarding pass".

Ryanair is funny that way, so we figured we'd better have them ready rather than risk paying an exorbitant fee for them at the airport.

Bologna has a lot of these covered walkways.
Keeps you out of the sun or rain.

The San Colombano church.
Constructed between the 7th century and 1008, it is currently a musical instrument museum.

We came across this very odd World Trade Center memorial.
The statue is odd, but it is the tree in the background that is the attraction.

You can read the story here.

Typical side street in Bologna.

Scenery along the way.

We came across another church that was very plain on the outside, but very ornate on the inside.

This tower is actually one of two.

The second one is leaning badly.

They are doing some transit construction and the roads are really messed up and they have changed some of the bus routes that didn't show up on google. It took a long time just to figure out which bus we wanted, then it took forever to show up. It was the wrong bus to get back to our Airbnb to pick up our bags. So we ended up with another 1.5 km walk. Things didn't go very smoothly, and it was about to get worse.

We got to the airport about two and a half hours before our flight, which should be loads of time in a small airport. But the Ryanair luggage drop off was a zoo and it took about an hour just to do that. Fortunately, we were very quick through security. And then we had to wait anyhow. Boarding was a real circus and very poorly organized. We fly a lot, so we just take these things in stride, but you could see some people getting frustrated.

When boarding the plane, you could see this big black cloud in the distance. Sure enough, once they got everybody on the plane, it started raining and they said we would be at least a half an hour before we could take off. That turned into about an hour.

Waiting to take off.

Our flight had been scheduled to leave at 4:30pm, and it was 6:00pm by the time we finally got in the air.

Welcome to Albania!

It was only an hour and twenty minute flight, but we spent two and a half hours in the plane.

Through Albania immigration in minutes, and our luggage was among the first to come out of the carousel. We walked the short distance to our hotel.

We have stayed at the Hotel Alpet before, and we will be back here on the 28th.

This morning, we will pick up our rental car and drive to Berat.

  1. Well, at least you made it there safely, but sounds like a kind of stressful day. Hope everything goes smoothly there in Albania for you!
