My innards were all shook up

We woke up to the most beautiful day... during the morning, there was almost not a cloud in the sky. So we took advantage of the fantastic weather and the water access beside the river to get cleaned up, washed our hair, I shaved, and we hand washed some clothes and set them out to dry.

Yes, the water is ice cold!

But we didn't get in it... just buckets that we warmed up with some boiled water.

We put our chairs and table out.

Beautiful blue sky morning.

Starting to get some clouds by the time we hit the road.

We weren't going far... only from Talas to Kyzyl-Adir, about 60 kms (37 miles). And it's on a fairly major road. It took us over two hours! In fact, it took a half an hour just to get from the campsite down to the main road. Terrible potholes and ruts. And then on the main road it was on and off under construction... mostly on! And lots of heavy truck traffic heading to the border.

Road under construction.

Scenery along the way.

Two hours of that, and my innards were all shook up. Talk about a bouncy, pot holed couple of hours!

We arrived in Kyzyl-Adir and parked at 24 hour grocery store. The sell a little bit of everything. So we picked up a few more things since we will be getting into a fairly remote area soon and not sure how long we'll be there.

Also filled up with gas again.. the UAZ Buhanka takes high test 95 octane, which sells here for 84.4 SOM per liter. That's about $1.33 CAD, or $3.63 USD per gallon. The regular gasoline is 79 SOM per liter ($1.25 CAD, or $3.40 USD per gallon).

I only filled the main tank yesterday. We will fill up the reserve tank and the portable tank before we head out this morning because we are heading to areas where the two possible gas stations may not have any fuel!

We drove about 12 kms further to a reservoir where you can camp with the cows!

View from where we were parked.

Vladdy, camped for the night at GPS 42.649249, 71.565981

Just us and the cows.

Sunset. Looked like it might rain, but it never did.

View looking west.

Here's a map of our approximate route so far since we picked up Vladdy and left Bishkek.

So, we are headed south from here, up into the mountains. I've read that cell access is very spotty, so you may not hear from us for a couple of days. It's so remote that the main highway is a gravel road!

These big power stations just keep going down in price... Anker C2000.

And in Canada...
