Oh, yesterday I said that it cost $322 CAD ($234 USD) per person for the two hour flight. And while that was true, we didn't pay a dime!
The price for the three of us was $966 CAD ($702 USD), but we had enough credit card points to cover the whole thing. So yesterday's trip was technically free.
Ussie with Kevin, Ruth, and grandson Cameron (14).
Waiting for the flight in Halifax airport.
It was an uneventful two hour flight from Halifax to Ottawa.
Porter Airlines now has free WiFi for VIPorter members, so that was nice. And, a free snack along with beer or wine if you wish. They only had two choices for beer... Moosehead, and Cracked Canoe. I had never heard of Cracked Canoe beer before, and I thought maybe it was some kind of new craft beer. But it turns out it's a crap beer!
Ultra light 3.5% beer.
Even the moose looks like it's running away!
Sorry, that's not beer. Anyhow, now I know.
So we arrived at Ottawa and we had to collect our bags. Yes, we only had carry on sized bags, but Porter has decided to charge you less money to check your bag (despite its size) than it costs to bring it on board. No problem, until we waited for the bags to come out.
And Cameron's never showed up! We waited until all of the others had received their baggage, then we went over to make a claim. The girl said that based on his bag number, it had scanned through to the carousel, but we had been waiting right at the chute where the bags come out, so we would have seen it. She went and checked physically, but there was no bag to be seen.
Back at the carousel, they started it up again because a new flight had arrived. Sure enough, there was Cameron's bag... the very first one out being pushed by a big suitcase. It must have somehow been stuck on the conveyor and the larger bag managed to push it free.
We took a $30 CAD ($22 USD) Uber from the airport to the house, and had an hour chat with the homeowners before they headed out for their own flight... to London first and then connecting to the island of Crete.
Then we did some sticker shock grocery shopping, although we did manage a couple of deals as well. We'll go out and do a bigger shop today to do some stocking up since we'll be here until October 8th.

And in Canada...
Lucky to have recovered Cameron's bag. I'll bet no airline employee checked the belt for it either. Adding a deflector plate would eliminate the problem.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe and Enjoy visiting with Cameron.
It's about time.
Yes, we are glad that Cameron's bag came through. Cameron was upset at first when he thought his bag was lost but then he was almost hoping that it would stay lost so that he could buy new clothes and have the money reinbursed by the airline. In the end, I think he was happy to see his bag again.

DeleteCracked Canoe is basically Moosehead light, and it's better than Moosehead. I'll choose it if I want a light beer. There are worse options.
ReplyDeleteKevin agrees there are probably worse options but if he had known it was a light beer he would not have ordered it, he would have had a glass of wine instead. Kevin doesn't do light beers ever!
