Getting ready for the wedding

We have a car rental booked for this coming Monday in Birmingham, but yesterday evening I received a note from our house sitting host that she has an older car we can use if we want to. Which is very nice of her!

And I can cancel our car rental at no charge, but before I do that I need to check out just how much we'll save to see if it's worthwhile.

Because if we do cancel the car rental, we'll need to make our way from Birmingham to Preston by either bus or train. And then I have to see if I can find another good car rental deal for our time from the 29th to June 10th.

So that will be my research project for this morning, but we are leaning towards keeping the car rental just because of the logistics of the rest of the trip!

Yesterday was haircut day in preparation for the big wedding coming up this Saturday...

Ruth, giving me a haircut.

It's Helen and Tony's son Stu who is getting married to his girlfriend Harriet. They've been planning this wedding for probably two years now, and the date has finally arrived.

So, Stu and Harriet dropped by here yesterday so that Stu could also get a haircut (Helen is also a hairdresser) and pick up a few things they had stored here. Nice to see them again, and of course we'll see them again on Saturday.

It's going to be quite the event, taking place at the fancy Orchardleigh Estate Wedding Venue...

Where the wedding is being held this Saturday.

We are staying overnight at the venue, so that should be fun. Means that nobody has to worry about driving home. It's a little pricey, but not as bad as you'd think.

Ruth and Helen have left to go with the girls to get their nails done.

It's looking pretty nice outside today! Hopefully the same for wedding day tomorrow, but the forecast is looking mixed.

Decent price drop on this Hamilton Beach Indoor Electric Grill.

And in Canada...

  1. Does Ruth travel with her shears? If so, does she have any problems at border crossings or at airports?

    1. No, I don't travel with them. When we had Max, I did bring my haircutting stuff with me because we had checked baggage when we came back from Canada with our bicycles back in the fall of 2021 but when we sold Max last year all we had was carry on luggage so I left the haircutting stuff in Max for the next owners to use if they wanted them. My cousin, Helen is also a hairstylist so I used her scissors and clippers.

  2. WOW, that looks like an amazing venue for a wedding - and an overnight stay! I can't wait to see the photos!

    1. it looks like a very posh wedding venue, I am not sure that we will clean up well enough in our charity shop clothing that we purchased last year for the wedding in Ireland for this place, lol!
