And... we're off!

Writing this from Halifax Airport where we've got an all afternoon wait for our WestJet flight to Toronto.

There are only two overseas flights that go from Halifax, one goes to London, and the other one goes to Frankfurt. Everything else is stuck routing through either Montreal or Toronto. So in our case, we are flying Halifax to Toronto, then Toronto to Paris CDG.

In hindsight, we didn't do this the best way, but then hindsight is always 20/20, right? When I originally booked our return flights from Paris to Ottawa and then Halifax back to Paris through Toronto back in May, we didn't know exactly where we wanted to go afterwards. But it was cheaper to book a return back to Paris, so that's what we did. After all, Paris is a big busy airport, and you can fly to anywhere from there.

But then we decided to go to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and you definitely cannot get to Ashgabat from "anywhere". It turns out though, that we could have flown Halifax to London, and then London direct to Ashgabat. That would have been far easier than what we are doing, which is Halifax-Toronto-Paris-Istanbul-Ashgabat.

Oh well. It is what it is.

This trip to Canada turned out just about right. A month in Ottawa was almost a couple of days too long for me, but Ruth thought it was perfect. And then 11 days at our daughters was fine. But, we're both ready to get going!

Us with all of our worldly belongings.
And the rental car we've had for the past 11 days.

From the trail where we walked with our daughter's dog Chester.

There used to be a rail line running through here!

Chester and Ruth.

Justin, Lindsey, Cameron, and Sadie.

Family photo.
We even got Chester in the background!

Just for fun.

It's going to be a pretty hectic ten days or so ahead of us. But, we'll try and keep you updated as best we can. I do know that internet access in Turkmenistan is highly restricted, so you may not hear from us much (if at all!) between October 18-24.

Next update from Paris, France!

    1. They are pretty fun family pictures, we don't always remember to take a family photo when we are together so it was nice to get a recent one.

It is easy to travel light when that is all our worldly possessions, lol!
