Another good day exploring scenic Tenerife, Canary Islands

Bob and Denise came over in their rental car and picked us up around 9:00am and we set off on a scenic tour heading south through the center of the island of Tenerife.

The island itself is only about 80 x 50 kms (50 x 30 miles), but it's so diverse. And, the highest point in Spain is located on Tenerife... the Teide Volcano, at 3,715 meters (12,188')

Beautiful blue sky day.

But it was chilly at the higher altitudes. And there were some patches of snow at the side of the road. You can see the snow on the sides of the Teide Volcano.

Teide Volcano.

Good thing we got an early start, because on a beautiful Sunday the road was starting to get pretty busy by the time we were done.

Some odd rock formations.

The other side of the volcano.

Scenery along the way.

We arrived in the town of Vilaflor. Bob and Denise's hotel was located only 1 km from ours, but it was up a steep hill. They have several hiking trails leading right from the hotel parking lot, so we went for short hike to a viewpoint.

Out for another hike.

Strange sap oozing from this pine tree.

Nice view where we sat and had some lunch.

Back at the car, they drove us down to our hotel and dropped us off so we could get checked in and have a siesta.

The room is actually better than we expected.

Not bad for €45 ($66 CAD, $48 USD) a night.

We had happy hour back at their hotel, and Bob and Denise treated us to dinner there as well.

Some kind of cheesy starter.

I had the Iberian pork shoulder.
It doesn't look the best, but it was really good!

Ruth had some kind of beef steak.

Our flight back to Agadir doesn't leave until this evening, so we are headed out to do some more hiking today!

And in Canada...

  1. Fantastic scenery! The food and the room look great. The pine tree has a beetle infestation. I learned that as a kid in Boy Scouts :)

    1. We are very impressed with what we have seen so far just on Tenerife and Bob and Denise said that Gran Canaria is even better. This is definitely an place we would return to, four days is just not enough time.

Our room was quite nice but it was cold, that was our only complaint. The dinner at Bob and Denise's hotel was delicious and the staff were super friendly.

That is possible but other than the tree having been through a forest fire it looked totally healthy. From looking at what it says about a beetle infestation the pine needles should have been turning yellow/orange in color and I remember that not being the case. We wondered if it was a way of healing itself by covering some of it's wounds.
