4 hobbies you can take on holiday

As adults, we rarely find the time to indulge in hobbies

Between the demands of family life, the bustling world of work and any other constraints you might face on your time, it often feels as though there simply aren’t enough hours in the day.

Our holidays are a fantastic opportunity to relax and indulge in those activities we so rarely get to make time for. With that in mind, these are just four hobbies you can take on holiday – or anywhere.

1. Reading

There’s a reason you see so many snaps of hotdog legs accompanied by a beach read plastered across Instagram.

Aside from the fact that everybody likes to show off their sunny destination, a soothing beach and sweltering climate can be the perfect opportunity to kick back with a book.

You don’t have to be on holiday to enjoy a little light reading, of course. But with a greater availability of eBooks than ever before and a seemingly infinite number of titles to choose from no matter what you’re interested in, you can access a library.

2. An online degree

Life gets busy. Meaning for many of us, no matter how much we’d like to return to education, we just don’t have the time or the resources.

That’s why studying online can be a golden ticket for many mature students. ARU Distance Learning offer a range of qualifications that teach practical skills and yield a number of career opportunities.
But the best bit? With a degree that takes completely online means you can study anywhere you like – whether that’s your sofa, or a bright sandy beach.

3. Drawing

Art is a great way to capture the sights you’ll see on your adventures.

With just a pencil and some paper, you can create cityscapes, landscapes or figure drawings to immortalise your travels.

Prismacolor create pencils perfect for artists of all abilities, whether you’re an absolute beginner or a secret pro. If you’re packing expensive art pencils in hand luggage or a suitcase, just be sure they’re protected to prevent the lead from breaking.

4. Play an instrument

Ok so you might not be able to squeeze a piano or double bass onto the train.

But there are plenty of small instruments that are much easier to take on the go without consuming too much space in your suitcase or checked luggage.

A harmonica is one great example – favoured by Bob Dylan, this tiny instrument can play a range of popular tunes and with only ten notes, isn’t hard to master.

Alternatively, with just a handful of chords, a ukulele can be a great way to get those around you in a singalong, spread a little cheer and impress people to boot! Sweet sounding and not too big to take with you on your adventures.

Want a hobby you can take on holiday? These are just four activities you can enjoy anywhere in the world.
