Today, we are off to Austria!

Thursday morning, we said goodbye to friends Glen and Steve. It was just a short visit, but they are headed for Turkey for three months, and they want to be able to cross the border on November 1st. We are also headed for Turkey, but we don't want to cross until January 1st, or thereabouts.

So we hope to cross paths with them again in January in Turkey.

Glen needed a quick haircut though...

This should keep her going until we see them again!

Glen, Steve, and their motorhome Louis.

We haven't seen much of the sun in the past week. Especially the last four days. On and off rain, and almost totally overcast. And yesterday, the high was only 10C (50F), although it didn't get much colder than that overnight.

But the forecast is changing. No rain today, although no sun either. But Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be beautiful, with a sunny high of around 15C (60F). That's what we've been waiting for to explore the city of Salzburg, Austria.

So we just took a day off yesterday. The spot where we were parked was fine, and there are lots of walking trails. Even though it wasn't the nicest day, we still got out for a 7.5 km (4.7 mile) hike.

Max, parked up all by himself at GPS 47.759805, 12.929573

We walked over to the village of Marzoll.

Along the way was one of the original border markers, dated 1818.
Ruth is standing in Austria, but Germany is on the right side of the marker.

Marzoll Castle, built between 1527-1536.

St. Valentin Church.

This church dates back to 796, and it's been renovated about every 300 years!

Getting a drink.

Through the forest.

Us!

Scenery along the way.

View of the valley.

Ruth stops to say hello to any animals we come across.

So, we had a nice relaxing day.

Today, we are off to Austria! It won't be a long drive though. The city of Salzburg is only about 15 kms (9 miles) away.

Austria will be country #46 for us!

There is a lot to see and do in Salzburg and there isn't much in the way of free overnight spots for motorhome parking. So we're going to splurge on a campground for the next two or maybe even three nights. Salzburg is a popular city to visit and campgrounds can run over €30 ($43 CAD, $35 USD) per night, however I found one about 5 kms (3 miles) north of the city that charges €20 ($29 CAD, $23 USD) without electric, so that's where we're headed. Reviews are good, and we can empty and fill our tanks and use the showers and the laundry while we're there.

We're also going to buy the 24 hour Salzburg tourist card, which now costs €29 ($42 CAD, $33.50 USD) per adult. But it includes admission to virtually all attractions, so we're going to play tourist for a couple of days.

    1. I agree! I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me to it! Ruth's red jacket makes it look extra Christmassy!
