The start of our 14th year

Thirteen years ago yesterday, we closed the sale of our house and moved into the motorhome to embark on a different lifestyle. We have no regrets at all... we love our life!

And so begins the fourteenth year of Travel with Kevin and Ruth. And we think it's going to be a great year!

The last new country we visited was Peru in October of 2019. So it's been almost a full year since we've been somewhere new.

Hiking in Peru last October.

That is about to change with our upcoming visit to Germany. We won't really be seeing very much of Germany on this trip, however when we return in March to pick up our new motorhome we will be able to spend more time exploring. Not only Germany of course, but all of the other European countries that we haven't been to.

Germany will be country #39 for us. But given that many European countries are not very big, and somewhat close together, we wouldn't be surprised if we end up visiting 10 or 12 new countries over the next year.

A few of those new ones will not be in a motorhome though. We will have five months of travel ahead of us after we leave Germany towards the end of this month. We don't have anything firmly booked yet because there is a small chance that we might buy a used motorhome and set off right away. However it is likely that we will head to Albania or Greece or Turkey. There are lots of options.

And then next June we want to head up to Norway. We want to do the tough hike up to Trolltunga, and when our son was there a couple of years ago he said that we had better do it soon because it is a tough hike and we are not getting any younger!

Wow.
Can you tell why we want to hike here??

So, that's on the list of things to do. And the list of things we want to do is quite long, so we had better get started!

  1. I know you are going to Berlin and already made arrangements but are there nearby towns cheaper to stay at? This time of year is good for visiting Christmas markets (although not sure what those will look like but sure they will happen somehow as outside) in small town Germany. Glad you are not letting Covid stop you - it is still possible to be safe and continue life with precautions

    1. We have looked at that but to get from the nearby towns back into Berlin would then cost money for the train/bus each way for the both of us so that would then negate the cheaper price of accommodation. It is all good though because we have worked it out and have found a good apartment in a great location for exploring Berlin.

Yes, it will be getting into the season for Christmas markets but I think we might still be a little early for them and also, who knows if they will actually have them this year or how they would be run, plus there would probably be too many people around for our liking. You never know though, we certainly haven't ruled out visiting one or two if they have them.

Nope, we are not letting COVID stop us but we are still going to be very careful and follow all the precautions and advise for each country that we will be visiting.
