More Ecuador planning

Last day of September! And our Ecuador trip starts in less than two weeks, so I figured I had better get some more planning done.

We are only there for three weeks... not very long in Kevin and Ruth time. And out of our 21 days there, we are a full week in Quito and 8 days in Galapagos, so that only leaves 6 days to see the rest of the country!

And we like to travel slowly, so unfortunately we are't going to see much of the country. Yes, we will be doing some day trips out of Quito, so we will see some of that area, and we will see some (but not all) of the Galapagos Islands, but then we had to figure out what to do with the remaining 6 days.

We fly from Galapagos back to the mainland and arrive in Guayaquil. The airport is located very close to both downtown and the bus station. We booked 2 nights at an Airbnb in Guayaquil giving us a full day to explore the city.

Then, we will make our way to the town of Baños which is located sort of half way between Guayaquil and Quito. The surrounding area looks like it is really our type of place. I booked another Airbnb there for 3 nights.

Baños, Ecuador.
Looking forward to 2 full days of hiking around that area!

And that brings us up to day 20... and we have to leave on day 21! So we will then make our way back to Quito where I have booked our last night at the same place where we are spending our first week.

So, all we have left to book is our accommodation on the islands. I will get that done today.

While I was gone for the weekend, Ruth kept herself busy with things around the house. She got some leaves cleaned up outside, but of course there will be a lot more of them over the next couple of weeks.

And, she had a couple of old primary school friends visit on Saturday afternoon.

Myrna, Liz, and Ruth.

Yesterday I made my way back to Galetta from my weekend with the boys. Two late nights in a row just about does me in! Might have to have a nap today to get caught up.

Before we left though, we did do a short hike up the cliffs.

Nice view of Mazinaw Lake.

There are three different lookouts up there, but they were built years ago and the trees have grown that now partially block the views.

Two hour drive back to Arnprior, where I picked up Ruth's dad and brought him back to the house. Lindsey and Justin and the kids were coming over for dinner, plus it was Justin's birthday.

Cameron (8).

October 1st tomorrow, and you can sure feel that fall is in the air up here in Canada! We had a really good September, but there is some chillier weather headed our way.

  1. Baños is fabulous, and totally your kind of town. You couldn't have picked a better place to round our your visit to Ecuador. It's full of expats hikers, mtn. bikers, and all sorts of other active-type folk.

    1. I think we are going to like it there, it doesn't look too big of a place and it is in amongst the mountains with lots of hiking. We found an Airbnb with a local girl who does not speak English which is actually what we were looking for. :-)
