Change of plans... heading inland...

We had such a quiet night in the middle of nowhere! When we got up, our immediate destination was a waterfalls I had read about... it was only 6 kms (3.5 miles) away on a dirt track.

And it only took us a half an hour to do that distance! Yes, driving.

The entire way, I never got out of second gear, and most of the time it was first gear. And even then, we had to get out a couple of times to clear branches off the road that were too big to drive over... including one that was too big to move, so we drove over it anyhow!

And then, when we finally got to the Mumbulla Falls, somebody had shut off the water. And not only was there no waterfall, they had also closed our exit road due to a "bridge failure".

This pond was all that was left of the waterfalls.

There actually was a small stream of water still running.
About as much as you would get out of a garden hose!

The water was clear as can be!

We were located only about 5 kms (3 miles) from the main road that we wanted to be on. But due to the road closure, it was gong to be a 40 km (25 mile) drive, mostly on gravel roads.

We didn't see another vehicle the entire time.. and that includes the day before!

Wow... now that's a view!

We've changed our plans a little bit. For a couple of reasons. Originally, we were going to head up the coast towards Sydney, all the while knowing that we would actually avoid going into Sydney itself.

But, two things changed our plans.

First, we have been seeing an awfully lot of the coast. And while it's beautiful, it was all starting to look the same. We're not beach people to begin with, but it's still too cold up in the higher elevations.

Second, we are trying to make a deal to sell Bundy and Joyce prior to our August 19th departure from Sydney. I had put an ad on a facebook Australia RV group, and had a fair bit of positive response. Two of those interested want to see the product along the way, and they are very enthusiastic buyers.

It's not really out of our way if we take the inland route, so it didn't take much incentive to make up our minds that that is what we wanted to do!

We stopped in the town Bega to do some grocery shopping and go for a walk.

I just love pelicans.
They are so funny looking!

A pair of Pacific black ducks.

That is a river oak tree that towers above Ruth.

It's called an oak tree, but it has needles like a pine tree. Those needles are actually "branchlets". So although ti doesn't have leaves, it is actually an oak tree.

No, I don't get it either! It looks like a pine tree to me, not an oak tree!

The grandstand from the old racecourse.

The old racecourse.

The Bega river is pretty quiet.

A muscovi duck.
He's not really a very handsome fellow, is he?

We had done about a 6 km (3.7 mile) walk around the town of Bega, but we needed to find somewhere to park for the night. Really, it would have been easy in Bega... now that we are away from the coast, there are no signs advising against overnight parking.

But, we carried on.

View from the Bega lookout.

Wow. Beautiful countryside.

Scenery along the way.

In the town of Bemboka, we had read of some inexpensive paid camping at the sports club. But, there was also a showgrounds that we went to check out. Nothing advising against RVs parking here so that's where we parked.

Free parking at the showgrounds for the night.

So, we are meeting one couple along the way to Canberra (Australia's capitol city), and if that deal doesn't come together, we will meet another couple just after Canberra. The plan is to be able to use Bundy and Joyce up until August 10th or so, and then we will spend some time in Sydney prior to our flight to Hawaii. The price is right, so we're pretty sure it will will come together.

A lot of driving for 77 kms (48 miles)!

Fantastic deal on a Vacuum Sealer Machine with Bags.

And in Canada...

  1. Glad you are heading inland as well. Canberra is interesting. Not exciting, just interesting 😊. Hope you can get to kangaroo valley. I took it for granted that Oak trees and pelicans were commonplace. I will look at them with fresh eyes now. Good luck with the sale. 😊

    1. Unfortunately I don't think our trip inland will last very long. It is way too cold, woke up to frost inside of Joyce this morning!!!! Kevin said the outside temperature was -5C. The daytime temperature looks fine though. :-)

They are pretty commonplace but for us, we love the look of pelicans. We even get pelicans on the lake at the campground that we used to manage in Saskatchewan. Have to say though we have never seen an oak tree with out proper leaves before, this was definitely new for us.

  2. Glad you have two possible options to sell before you leave the country, would be so much easier. I'd be interested in seeing more of the interior as well.

    1. Our fingers are crossed that Bundy and Joyce will sell quickly and we honestly don't see why they won't.

We did post pictures of the interior near the beginning of our trip. www.travelwithkevinandruth.com/2019/05/next-stop-who-knows.html

  3. In Canberra you can trade Bundy and Joyce for a bus named Priscilla, and then drive it to Alice Springs!
