We made it!

And holy cow, that was a lot of driving over the last five weeks! I love driving, but even I am due for a break. In fact, we purposely drove a few extra miles the last couple of days in order to get to the Mission West RV Resort a little early so we could stay in one spot for a while!

We've got five nights in one place!

We left Canada on October 20th...

And we did 3,350 miles (5,400 kms) to get here! It's actually a little more than that because we put 3,500 miles on the motorhome since we crossed. And, we used 378 gallons of fuel to do it... doing the math, that works out to 9.3 mpg. Not bad, considering the number of hills he had to climb!

Stopped and filled the tank yesterday at $2.08 USD per gallon ($0.75 CAD per liter), the cheapest since we started the trip.

Stopped for breakfast at a rest stop overlooking the Rio Grande.
U.S. on the left, Mexico on the right.

We arrived at Mission West RV Resort later in the afternoon. Two rigs from our group were already here, and another one arrived during our first happy hour get together. So half of us are here already, and we know at least another one is arriving today.

It was like Christmas when we went into the office and collected our Amazon packages...

Lots of stuff to open!

Some of it is related to our Mexico caravan. Just some road safety items and spare parts. Other stuff is just stuff we needed. New chairs. An awning tie down strap. A new power supply for Ruth's laptop. Just stuff.

To celebrate Ruth's birthday, we splurged and bought a couple of nice boneless rib eye steaks, and I cooked supper for a change...

Mmmm.

Delicious, even if I do say so myself.
Ruth agreed though... everything cooked to perfection.

So, while it is true that we are staying in one spot for five nights, there is a lot to do! One of our Amazon purchases was a new set of tire valve extenders. Sherman has a slow leak on the right rear inner tire, and I'm almost certain it's the valve extender. The one on the right rear outer has already gone bad, and I had removed it. But I can't get at the inner one without removing the outer wheel. There is a tire shop just down the road so I'll have to go there to get it done.

And we have to install our two way radio and help the others get theirs installed too.

We have rented a car for two days and pick it up after lunch Thursday. This way, none of the group has to use their rig to do any last minute running around. I will play taxi for them.

Temperature is pleasant at around 73F (23C) but there is a 30% chance of showers today. Supposed to get hot by Friday though!

Great selection of ugly holiday sweaters. Some of them are really bad!! Check this out...

And in Canada too!

  1. Best getting things fixed before crossing the border. The less breakdowns the more enjoyable the trip.

    1. Thank you for the birthday wishes!

No we won't be doing the same route as last year. There will be a lot less driving on this trip and more time relaxing and seeing the sights at each location. :-)

    1. Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! :-)

We are looking forward to our Mexico trip as well, it always feels like we are returning home again, every time we go back there. We first need to get through this trip before we decide if we are going to do another one.

Sounds like you have an adventure waiting for you this winter. It is always nice to not have a solid plan and just go with the flow. Have a fun winter! :-)

    1. Thank you David! No Sandee Claws didn't pay for all the gifts, too bad we don't have a fairy godmother or something like that to pay for them. ;-)

We are looking forward to writing about our adventures in Mexico for you and others to read about. It is going to be another fun winter.

We will be sure to ask Garth.
