If we were in the motorhome, that would have been a three day drive!

Long drive today as we made our way from Galetta (near Ottawa) to Ruth's sister's place in Hamilton, Ontario.

We decided to take the back route, which we would probably do again despite the fact the it took about two hours longer than if we had taken the main highway. Really nice scenery, and not much traffic.

Had quite a lot of road construction though, even though it's getting a bit late in the season for that.

Some road construction.

Some sections were nicely finished though.

Hardly any traffic.

We stopped at the Furnace Waterfall to stretch our legs.

Pretty church. Too bad about the wires all hanging in front of it!

We left at 8:50am, and arrived at her sister's place in Hamilton at 4:50pm. We still had to fight our way through Hamilton traffic at rush hour, but it wasn't too bad. We stopped at Tim Horton's for a hot drink, and then a couple of times to stretch our legs.

540 kms (335 miles).

If we were in the motorhome, that would have been a three day drive!

Flying to British Columbia Wednesday afternoon, so you probably won't get another update from us until Thursday.

Nice price drop on the Estwing Sportsman Camping Hatchet

And in Canada...

    1. The maple trees really make the colour up here with their reds and oranges. I am sure it won't be long and your trees will be turning too.

    1. Yes, we enjoyed it very much. We will probably do this drive again sometime just to avoid all the Toronto traffic.

  4. It is time to thank you for all of the entertainment that you have given us. Every day over this past summer we have followed your trip and have totally enjoyed your postings. We will continue to follow you on your adventures in Mexico. Who knows, one day we may cross paths. Our own adventure starts in November with our yearly trip to La Manzanilla, Boca Beach Campground.
    Again, Thank You,
    Roy and Belinda

    1. You are very welcome, we are so glad that you have enjoyed this summer's posts. We had a wonderful time exploring Canada's north and now we are looking forward to some new adventures ahead of us.

I hope that one day our paths will cross too! Enjoy La Manzanilla. How long do you spend there?

    2. We will be at Boca Beach Campground, La Manzanilla for 3 months, then Ajijic for March, and on up to the U.S. next summer.

    3. We will be in Jocotepec at the beginning of March so there may be a chance of meeting up then. Where will you be staying in Ajijic?

    4. We own a house in San Antonio Talayacapan, that is between Ajijic and Chapala. We also have a small storage area for our Motorhome with only three spaces that have full hookups for us. We are lucky, the other two are friends that also spend time in Melaque and La Manzanilla also spend time in San Antonio Talaycacapan. We will watch your blog and drive out to see you. Sounds like you will be at Roca Azul.

  5. Gorgeous fall colours and like you we prefer to avoid the traffic if possible. We'd rather have an enjoyable (albeit longer drive) than endure a white knuckler!

    1. Thank you Dianne! I would imagine that the colours are spectacular up your way, or maybe you have already moved on to warmer weather.

Nice to hear that we aren't the only ones that feel this way about busy freeway traffic, especially in the big cities. That whole 401 and Toronto traffic just isn't a lot of fun to deal with anymore.

    1. Thank you and yes, it is beautiful here in British Columbia. It was a pleasure stepping off of the airplane yesterday evening in Abbotsford.

  7. I'll take that back route every time. Here in the US, it was not uncommon for Interstates to be built a short distance away from the US Highways they replaced. All the new development immediately locates out to the Interstate, and the old town centers get stuck in a time warp. Driving on the old routes is slow, but it's like going back in time, and it's so much more interesting than the Holiday Inns and Applebees out by the Interstate.

    1. Yep, we totally agree with you and I'm sure as you know from reading the blog that we love to go and explore all those little towns along the way. :-)

    1. I think it is mostly the maple and oak trees that make the difference with the colour of the leaves because they give lots of reds and oranges.
