Christmas Eve at the beach!

We didn't have far to go yesterday, only 48 miles. As soon as we got to Port Lavaca, we stopped at the Walmart to do a little last minute grocery shopping and buy an emergency supply of beer. Wouldn't want to run out of beer during Christmas at the beach!

Got up to the cash, and the beer wouldn't go through. The cashier couldn't figure it out, until she remembered that you can't buy beer here until after noon on a Sunday. Who thinks up these ridiculous laws?

But, it was almost 11:30am, so we went and sat in Sherman for a half an hour and I went back to get the beer at noon.

We're obviously getting close to Mexico!

My two favorite beers!

Crossing the bridge to Port Lavaca.

Yesterday's drive, 48 miles (77 kms).

There they are!

Friends Lorne and Sue are also here. They are from Manitoba, and we met them last year when we drove from Cabri, SK back to Ottawa. During the summer, they run the concession at a Manitoba Provincial Park. They also keep a blog at A Place Called Away

Sherman, parked at the beach for Christmas at GPS 28.555726, -96.524071.

It was a beautiful day yesterday!

Best day that we've had so far this trip. Temperature was about 71F (22C), no wind to speak of.

Sherman, all by himself.

We sat our with the crew and got caught up on things.

By late afternoon, the wind had picked up and things started to cool off as a cold front moved in for the next couple of days.

Our view out the windshield at sunset.

We were invited over to Lorne and Sue's for a Christmas Eve party with their friends Ed and Lessie. Lots of good food, and then a few rousing rounds of LRC, the dice game. We played with quarters, and Ruth and I walked away $1.50 to the good!

Lots of laughs with Lessie, Sue, Ruth, Lorne, and Ed.

Group shot... Sue, Lessie, Ruth, Ed, Kevin, Lorne.

Merry Christmas from Kevin and Ruth!

    1. And Merry Christmas to you as well!

The beach view was great but other than the first afternoon of our arrival here the weather hasn't been so nice. Extremely windy and chilly. Today it is raining so we are headed further south. And least our chilly weather here is way better than your cold weather there. Yikes that is cold!!!

    1. Merry Christmas to you as well Cam. It isn't a bad camping spot but the weather is very agreeable right now so we are headed on down the road. Kevin just added the GPS co-ordinates to this blog post. Normally Kevin puts them after we have left. We don't like to be crowded in. ;-)

  6. Christmas on the beach? What more could you ask for!!! We're also having warm temps a little further west of you in Yuma, Az. Who needs snow and cold temps to feel festive? Not us!
