Arrived in Ottawa!

When we left off yesterday, we had been at Toronto airport waiting for our flight to Ottawa. The gate agent had offered us $200 cash each to take the next flight at 9:15am, but had said that she had to wait until boarding was complete to confirm that was going to happen.

Everybody was on the plane, and she called our names.

We went up to the counter expecting to be set up for the next flight.

Instead, she says "Well, everybody is on the plane and there are still two empty seats so here are your boarding passes back".

Apparently two people didn't show up for their flights. They cost us $400...lol! Oh well...it just wasn't meant to be.

Anyhow, we quickly got on the plane, and not much more than ten minutes later we were in the air.

Sunrise in Toronto.
On the far right hand side, you can see the CN Tower in the distance.

It's just a quick 45 minute flight from Toronto to Ottawa.

At Ottawa airport, we waited outside for our daughter. It was a nice warm morning, and very comfortable at 8:15am. They've been having a heat wave in Ontario, and were calling for another high around 30C (86F).

Our daughter arrived, and she had grandson Cameron (6) with her. He's supposed to be in school! Anyhow, Lindsey had offered the kids the opportunity to skip an hour or two of school in order to go pick up grandma and grandpa. But Sadie (4) had been playing with her friends and decided to go to school with them, saying "that's okay, I'll see grandma and grandpa after school".

Arrived at our daughter's place in Osgoode, located about 20 minutes south of Ottawa.

We are only about 50 kms (30 miles) from the New York state border.

Sherman was there waiting for us!

He's been sitting in the same place for a year now. They had a lot of rain this summer, but there is no indication of any leaks at all. The two mouse traps I had left set were both full, yet there was very little indication of mouse activity. Lots of dead flies to vacuum up, but otherwise he seems to have survived the down time just fine.

And then it was like Christmas! We had received several packages over the summer that were waiting to be opened. I'll talk about some of them another day, but one in particular was fun!

Blog reader Lori had sent a package from Washington state...

Care package from Darrington, Washington.

Included, was a Canada flag she crochet for Canada's 150th birthday for Sherman to carry in his window. Thanks Lori!

Grandpa Kevin, reading Sadie and Cameron a story.

Grandma Ruth with Sadie.

Oh, I forgot to mention. When we were on the overnight plane from Edmonton to Toronto, we had actually slept for an hour or two. But at one point I had woken up and looked out the window. We were on the north facing side of the plane, and the northern lights were spectacular from 40,000 feet! Not possible to take a photo through the airplane window, and even to see the lights half decently yourself, you had to cup your hands around the side of your face to stop the light from the interior of the plane. Hopefully we'll get a few good shows when we go up north next summer!

RV exercise kit... we have this exact set and it works great! But, you have to use it. It will not work very well just sitting in the cupboard...

And in Canada...

    1. Thanks Lori! We love seeing the grandkids again and they were so excited to see us too. :-)

Thank you very much for the Canada flag, Sherman will enjoy showing it off. Also looking forward to making a pot of soup with the soup mix you sent. We will have to remember to get a picture of it when I have the pot of it made.

Hopefully next fall we will make it to your next of the woods. The area you live in sounds wonderful and full of beautiful scenery and great hiking.

    1. We caught the tail end of it on Wednesday before it started to cool off in the evening. We however had an extremely hot summer out in Saskatchewan all summer long that we don't really mind having some slightly cooler weather.

  8. How very unique to see the northern lights from a plane.

Apparently they created quite the show here around midnite. We were in bed :(

    1. It was a fantastic view of them from the plane, it was too bad that there was just no way to get a picture of them though!

That was our problem at the park as well. I went out a few of the evenings near the end of the season to see if I could see them before going to bed but I had no luck and I wasn't going to get up later in the night to check again.
