Back in business

When the pump when down yesterday morning, it was pouring rain. This is actually a good thing (not the timing, but the rain!) because the park has been under a fire ban for over a month now, and the steady morning rain was enough for the ban to be removed.

So the campers will now be happy that they can have campfires again!

Our friend Doug came and helped change the pump with me. Thanks Doug! It does make it an easier job with two people. The whole assembly probably weighs over 100 lbs, so just moving it around is easier with two.

We were lucky that there was a lull in the rain while we were changing it out.

This one has a new motor and a rebuilt pump.

Doug is an electrical engineer, so he insisted that I was not qualified to hook up the wiring to the motor. Too funny. He was just kidding, of course.

So we were soon back in business. With any luck at all, it will last the rest of the season without breaking down again. But I wouldn't count on it. We sure have had our share of problems with it this year!

Now, because we had sufficient rain to remove the fire ban, I went up to the wood shed and filled all the wood bins to make them ready for sale. I expect we'll go through a fair bit of firewood this weekend!

And then yesterday evening, another big storm went through. All kinds of thunder and lightning. And it rained pretty heavy for about twenty minutes too.

Nice and sunny this morning though. :-)

Nice lightweight telescopic extension ladder on sale this morning...

  1. If only one rain would remove our fire risk here in BC...it did rain but it mostly just got some of the smoke out of the air. You have had a lot of issues with that pump...are you going back next year? Or is that yet to be determined? Good to have a backup pump, that is for sure.

    1. I wasn't just that one rain that removed the fire ban we also had a good rain Friday night and at least half the day on Saturday and then more Sunday night and Monday morning before the ban was lifted. That and the fact that the we had cooler weather ahead and more rain which we got on Monday night with a huge thunder storm that went through the area.

We have had more issues this year with the pump than any other year I think! We actually haven't made the commitment yet.

  2. I think "the park" is quite fortunate to have you around to sort out all these little issues. Never hurts to have a half decent skill set to tackle almost anything. Almost.
Nice to see the fire ban lifted. We have visitors from B.C. and they've said that camping isn't quite camping without a camp fire, and B.C. seems to have a fire ban for most if not all of the summer.

    1. We like to think that the park is fortunate to have us here! :-) You definitely need to be a Jack/Jill of all trades working here and luckily Kevin is very mechanically inclined that he can tackle all kinds of issues that seem to arise here.

Yes, it is nice to see the fire ban lifted. We sure have some very happy campers now. Many have been using the propane fires which seemed to have filled that void but everyone says that it still isn't the same as having a real fire.

  3. Nice that you got that pump replaced again and with help to boot. Yes a bit of rain would make the campers happy again for sure.

    1. Yep, having Doug help Kevin with replacing the pump sure sped up the process. Fingers crossed that this is the last time that Kevin will have to fiddle with the pump this season.

The rain was much needed here!

  4. Will do anything for rain here in the interior of BC, anything to get rid of the smoke. Happy that things are working out for you there.

    1. It certainly seems that way this year! We have always struggled through though and got things back up and running. :-)

  6. You need a pump house to keep that thing out of the elements. I think it would last longer.

    1. I've been saying that since the first year we were here. However, the pump itself is sealed and waterproof. And the electric motor is also all weather. So I don't think that's what is causing the problem, but it would look so much nicer...
