June Expenses

Well, we were pretty much on track with expenses until we bought three new pairs of eyeglass. But, it had to be done. And, our grocery expenses were still above what they should be but we continue to believe (hope?) that things will average out in that department over the next three months.

So, we spent a total of $1,033 CAD ($800 USD) for the month of June. Here's how it all broke down...

(Note, the following figures are all in Canadian dollars. For U.S. dollar equivalent you can subtract about 22%).

Gasoline: We put $54 worth of gas in the little blue car. Gas prices have been decent, at about $0.97 per liter ($2.85 per gallon USD) in Swift Current.

Grocery: $726 in groceries for the month. But, we've got it figured that if we can average $90 a week for the next 12 weeks, we'll still come in at a decent average for our five months here. Time will tell.

Alcohol: We broke down and bought a bottle of wine for $8.84 which is just about the cheapest bottle of wine you can buy here in Saskatchewan. Oddly, it was decent enough to drink! We had it last night to celebrate the completion of our busy long weekend! We see another bottle of wine in our future to celebrate the end of our August long weekend a month from  now!

Miscellaneous: Really good in this department. Just our car insurance ($77.50) our cell phone ($23.50), and our new eyeglasses ($129) and a couple of small items.

And, we spent $127 each for our round trip tickets to Barbados but that won't get expenses until we actually take the trip.

Happy July the 4th to our U.S. readers... hope you all enjoy your holiday!

    1. Zenni Optical online. Just google it. And, two of the three pairs were progressive lenses.

  2. And belated Happy Canada Day to you folks! Very nice photo in the banner. Pretty amazing you could keep the expenses down to that and even with 3 pairs of glasses.

    1. Thanks Randy, we had a great Canada Day here at the park with lots of enthusiastic and patriotic campers!

Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July.

It helps that we are at the campground over the summer so absolutely zero overnight expenses and because we are in the middle of nowhere, we really have nowhere to spend our money, except on the internet. ;-) Got to get our food budget down though, hopefully it will much lower over the next 3 months.

  3. Hi Kevin, Ruth,
Not exactly related to this post but to an earlier: how is your 7/11 SIM card working? We need a card for Canada only this summer and I remember you have one.

    1. Not great. It doesn't have the coverage that I was expecting from their coverage map. However, I would expect that in the cities and probably along major highways it would work just fine. But for my needs, I wouldn't get it again. We would simply do without.

    1. We hadn't heard of Zeni before until our daughter told us about it. However we have used Firmoo before and it is an online eyeglass shop as well but a little more expensive and I don't think they have quite as much of a selection as Zeni but seem to be slightly better quality then Zeni.

  5. My monthly expenses were $1,505.00. A bit higher than normal because of high electric bill...it's summer in Phoenix with a/c running 24/7. Through the summer until October or so, my electric bill will be high. I had expensive glasses made but something is wrong...I can focus with them on. I need to go back and have my glasses checked or my eyes rechecked. I had cataract surgeries on both eyes last year. With the stigmatism in my eyes, I still need to wear glasses but the clarity and night vision to drive have tremendously improved. I can see!

    1. $1500 isn't too bad, that is the point that we like to try and stick under but when we travel abroad it is harder to try and stay under that amount.

Glad that you are able to see better since having the cataracts done. My dad has had his done as well.
