Special visitors coming this week!

Late start to the blog post this morning. Woke up, and noticed right away that the water wasn't running, so had to go out and fix that up first! Not an easy fix, and I had to recruit one of the young fellas around here to go out into the muddy water and straighten out the intake pipe that had been blown around by the storm last night.

Pretty sure we've got it anchored securely enough now!

This park isn't normally very busy on May long weekend, and that's the case again this year. Which is fine by us, given that we're still working out opening day bugs. We won't get busy until the kids get out of school around June 24th.

Our owl youngsters haven't left the nest yet, but we expect they will any day now. It's amazing how much they grow in three weeks!

May 1st, with mom behind one of the babies.

May 21st...the baby isn't such a baby any more!

I don't think we ever told you about the visitors we have coming this week. Really looking forward to seeing our daughter Lindsey and grandkids Cameron and Sadie who are going to be staying with us here at the park for two whole weeks! Shame that son-in-law Justin couldnt make it, but he'll be staying behind in Ottawa to make a living while they're out here visiting.

So, I'll be driving in to Regina airport to pick them up at 11:30am Wednesday morning. Only three more sleeps!

Long distance canoer Mike Ranta had taken this photo of us when he was here last week.
Kevin, Ruth, Valine (our summer employee) and Mike's dog Spitzii.

Around 8:00pm last night, just before the storm hit.

I was looking at the latest lakes and rivers forecast that's issued every couple of weeks by the Saskatchewan Water Security agency. And it doesn't look promising. Without significan rainfall west of here, we are in for a very low lake level this season. Oh well. Nothing we can do about it.

  1. We're in for another hot and dry summer in BC. If you get caught dropping a cigarette from your car you will lose your car! Have fun with the family!

    2. I agree with Wendy, the problem is finding, catching and proving that a certain person did that!

  2. THose owl pictures are fabulous! Bummer about the lake. They say it's going to be a hot summer in New England and the northern US. Guess that extends out to you guys. What fun to have your daughter and the kids with you for two whole weeks. Bummer for you SIL but still great for you 5.

    1. It's really hard not to take pictures of these "baby" owls, they are so interesting to watch.

Yes, it sucks that the lake is so low but it is what it is. Again it doesn't help that the east side of the Rocky Mountains didn't get much snow this year and that is what feeds our lake. We started off with a dry spring but it isn't anymore, although we would need an awful lot of rain to have any kind of impact on the water level in the lake.

Looking forward to our two week visit with our daughter and grandkids. We are going to have a blast with them! :-)

    1. Yep, it is going to be a blast! They will have such a big backyard for the next two weeks, with lots of exploring and wildlife to watch out for.
