California, here we come!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that Ruth's cousin Helen and her husband Tony from England had been scheduled to come visit us here in Mexico, but Helen broke her leg and they had to cancel. Well, the leg is on the mend and they've rescheduled their trip.

Now, we're meeting them in Los Angeles, California!

It doesn't really matter to us which route we take north out of Mexico. So we had told them that we could meet them towards the end of March, virtually anywhere between Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California.

And it turns out that the cheapest way to reschedule their flight was to fly direct from London, England to Los Angeles. So now, California, here we come!

We haven't spent much time in the Los Angeles area, so we're looking forward to seeing more of it. I'll keep my eye out for a cheap two week car rental so that we'll have some flexibility for doing day trips while Helen and Tony are visiting.

So, we will drive Sherman up to southern California and we need to be at LAX airport to pick them up on the afternoon of March 31st, exactly three months from today! They'll be with us for two weeks, and then we will head north to Canada.

So, we're excited and looking forward to that.

I was looking at our flight history for 2015. It didn't seem like we flew that much this year, but in fact we were on 12 different airplanes and in 10 different airports!

2015 flight map.

No flying yet booked for 2016, although I'm sure we'll be jetting off somewhere in early November.

Gotta go...looks like we're going for a kayak ride. Have a fun New Years Eve everyone!

  2. There's lots of traffic in the LA area. My youngest daughter couldn't figure out why we didn't want to visit her when she lived there. Now that they live in Sand Point, Idaho, we visited before they were completely settled. Lots to see and do, however, in California.

    1. Yes, we know there is lots of traffic in the LA area, something that we aren't looking forward too. We have been through the LA area before but never stopped to check any of it out.

Hopefully we won't spend much time in the city itself.

  6. I lived in LA for 16 years (15 too many!) and my daughter lived there for 30. It's way to expensive and crowded for my taste but I'm sure you two will figure out a way to make it all work. This will be fun to see!

    1. You know us, we always figure out a way to do things on the cheap. Can't do anything about the traffic though. Having said that, we really don't want to spend much time in the city itself. We're looking forward to the challenge.

  7. Enjoy LA, we were there a few years ago and checked out Venice beach (fun), too busy and expensive for us, but I am sure you will enjoy it.

    1. Yes, Helen already mentioned that they would like to visit Venice beach. This will be new to us all, so I am sure we will have fun. It may be expensive but that doesn't mean we will do anything that will be expensive. It will be interesting to see how things pan out.

    1. We love the planning and also trying to do and still be frugal. Unfortunately there won't be much that we can do about the traffic.

    1. We probably won't be spending much time in the city itself, perhaps enough to see a few of the sights and they we will get out of Dodge. Yes, Sherman will be coming with us but our hopes are to rent a car and leave Sherman put in one or two different spots.

  11. LA is a crazy place for sure. Be careful driving in that area. The drivers are nuts.

    Happy New Year!

    1. Sherman has driven through the area before during our very first year but never stopped to check things out. Hopefully he won't be going too far into the city itself. Not looking forward to the traffic that is sure.

    1. When we went to Las Vegas for a week back in 2012 we rented from Fox and got an amazing price so we are hoping we can do that again. We will NOT be renting from the airport, that is the most expensive place to rent from.
