Slightly busier this year

Last year we had a total of 20 RV's for the May log weekend. This year, we have 28. Part of the reason it's busier is that spring is a little early here this year and many of the local farmers have finished seeding operations.

It's certainly not busier because of our long weekend weather. We've never seen it so windy here as it was yesterday afternoon and evening.

Woke up yesterday morning and this stupid Canada Goose was on the roof of the office building.

Rats, with wings.

It was so windy that it was blowing clouds of dust up from the beach area. If you were outside in it, you actually ended up with grit in your mouth. And of course dead leaves appeared out of nowhere.

This will be the third time we clean our front lawn of leaves because of the wind!

On the bright side, there are now less leaves on the beachfront area. But on an overall basis, Mother Nature is not co-operating with our spring cleanup efforts this year. And only a forecast high of 11C (52F) today, with an overnight low of -3C (26F) tonight!

Nice to say hello to the returning campers. Everybody seems happy to see us back again this year, so we must have left a good impression.

We have new people running the canteen this year. The people from last year had been doing it for 4 or 5 years and simply decided they had had enough.

Lorraine and Diane, our new canteen staff.

We had a few complaints regarding dogs last year, and so the board decided, and we totally agree, that we should be more strict on rules regarding dogs at the park. I made up a handout to be given to the campers who arrive with dogs...

95% of people are really good with their dogs. 5% are not good at all! Hopefully those 5% can read. I guess time will tell.

We have a fantastic Amazon deal for any of our millionaire survivalist readers...

And it includes free shipping! What a deal!

The best part is that if you buy one, we'll make enough commission that we won't have to work next year!

  1. You have to read the comments on that Amazon link. People have bought them and one complained about the food being too salty. Comical.

    1. Yep, it is pretty funny! I honestly can't imagine anyone ever buying one of these. ;-)

    2. Little known secret: Amazon lets anyone review anything. You don't even have to own the item! So I took every vault review as tongue-in-cheek. Only reviews marked "Verified Amazon Purchase" were from Amazon owners. No verified vault reviews!

  2. You stated the rules firmly but nicely. Hope the campers follow them

    1. Hopefully they will be able to follow them because it they can't, then they will soon out that their dog won't be welcome here.

  3. As a dog owner nothing drives me crazier than seeing dog poop from an owner who never picked it up. Lazy!

    1. I totally agree! When we had Whiskey I always carried bags with me, and I have even handed them out to people when I see that their dog did it's business and they are about to head on their way without picking it up. I also don't like people who have their dog off leash in areas where they are supposde to be leashed and think that they dog is special and they don't need to follow this rule.

  4. Good luck with the rules, hopefully you can enforce them

    1. There is no "hopefully" George. If I see the rules being broken, there will be consequences. No point in having rules if they're not going to be enforced.

  5. The park I used to belong too had a sigh that said $100.00 fine for not picking up after your dog $75.00 goes to the person that turns you in and $25.00 goes to the park, I can honestly say we had no more piles of poop

  6. Will the canteen have the same menu?

    1. Nope. The new people are pretty much free to set their own menu and prices.

  7. One of our chief complaints with other campers is their barking dogs ... good luck getting that 5% to read and abide by the sign!

Those dried leaves littering the lawn look like good mulch to me! :- )

    1. Those 5% will have to abide by the rule or they will pay the price!

Unfortunately there are just too many leaves for it them to be mulch and because it is by the office and concession it doesn't look so welcoming to the campers. So now we get to remove them again for the 4th time this spring! ;-)
