Doing the Happy Dance

Ruth woke up yesterday morning, came into the kitchen, and started to dance. She said she was doing the "happy dance"!

Why? Well because most of the campers were pulling out of the park and we would be back to peace and quiet.

Our last busy weekend is over. It wasn't a bad one, but we did have one group who caused a few complaints. Nothing serious, but when you lumped all their issues together they simply weren't real pleasant to have around. If the park were my own private park, I would not be interested in accepting any reservations from them next year. I'll get some direction from the board at the next meeting as to how they want to handle the situation.

By 4:00pm yesterday afternoon, the park was quiet as can be. There are still quite a few seasonal trailers here, but the majority of the people have gone home. I think there were only two seasonal trailers being used last night, and we have one site occupied by couple who are camping by the day.

We've been going pretty much non stop for more than two months straight, so we're going to take a day or two to mostly just relax. It's a sunny morning so far, and I want to go across the bay and get a picture from a hill over there with the morning sun facing towards the park.  And Sharon and Arnie who ran the concession this year have invited us out on their pontoon boat this afternoon, and then we're having them over for dinner.

On to other things, Ruth was interviewed for an article online about the best travel shoes for women over 50. You can read the article here...

And, we wanted to direct you to a New York Times article about retirees who dump their possessions and hit the road. The article mentions our friends Dave and Bonnie who we have met up with several different times during our travels in Mexico.

  2. At the camp site where my friend Gerry has her RV, it remains there all year but the owners live on the property.

    1. That makes a difference, nobody can live here all winter! That's the main reasons everyone has to remove their units at the end of the season.

    1. We still have lots of work to do but we are definitely going to take a bit of time for ourselves.

  4. I think everyone was rejoicing this morning that this past week-end was over and the end to most summer vacations. Everyone that is but the poor folks who have to go back to work. Hope the board decides to disallow your problematic campers. Nothing gets attention like saying violations of the rules may result in future reservations being denied. Seems like an important stick to have.

    1. I bet you are sure happy now to have more peace and quiet in the national parks and having the trails almost to yourselves.

We will see what they say at the next board meeting. It certainly took away some of the enjoyment for many of the campers around them and that shouldn't happen.

  5. What I liked best about Ruth's contribution to the shoe article is that her choice pampers the feet and allows for a full day's walk. I'm uncertain the others featured would be as forgiving or comfortable. Kudos for being famous and WISE. Any wonder Ruth was doing the happy dance!!

    1. I am pretty sure many of the others don't do the type of hiking that we do or the amount of hiking but some of their choices for wandering around town do look comfy and stylish which my hiking are comfy but they certainly aren't stylish for wandering around towns.

  6. Sure will be nice to take a deep breath and slow down the work for a while, and have more fun.

  7. Excellent article. Like everything else, things have changed. Families aren't as tied together, we have distanced ourselves, found long-term friendships that have replaced those family ties. This allows us to be more mobile not to mention the travel options, use of the internet to connect. We have met most if not all of our friends via my blog or online rv forums. Travel isn't as expensive as it used to be especially with options such as boondocking, couch surfing, last minute cheap tickets on line, etc.

    1. We thought it was a good article too! So many people think you have to be rich to travel but we have proven that if you are careful with your money and do the research you can have a fun time on a small budget. We spend less money in a month of traveling than most people spend just living their life at home for the same period of time.

  9. Thanks for posting the link to the New York Times article David and I were recently in. It was a surprise to us as much as everyone else when it was published and interesting to see the article listed as the most emailed for several days afterwards. It shows how many people are curious and interested in living home free either in spirit or in fact. Best wishes for your upcoming travels and looking forward to all your blogs in the future. -Bonnie and David too www.vagabonandave.com

    1. You are welcome Bonnie! It was a well written article and hopefully people enjoyed reading it. When people ask us about living home free and how do we do it. We explain that we spend less money monthly than we did when we had a house. Many people don't realize that travel can be affordable if you are careful in the way that you do it. What are your winter plans?
