Finally made it out onto the lake!

Went out on a three hour boat trip yesterday evening. Great to finally get out on the lake and see what's around the corner!

The more we see of this little part of Saskatchewan, the more we like it. Took lots of pics for a change, so enjoy...

We've got another visitor with us just now. Kinda of a funny story in itself. Derek is also a long time reader of this blog, and he and I have become "facebook" friends over the years as well. When we were working in Kingston, Ontario the summer of 2009, Derek and his wife were living in the area. He had bought a small older motorhome and was setting out on a journey across Canada and wanted a little work done to it. He made arrangements to bring it in to the RV shop I was working at, but he couldn't make it himself. His wife brought it in.

So I've met his wife, but I had never met him!

Now, he's living in Scotland and he's back in Canada on his own visiting his sister near Calgary. Figured he had a couple of days to spare, and decided to to the drive down here to visit with us for a short time. Nice!

Anyhow, he timed his visit perfectly. We had been invited out on a lake tour with Brad, the chairman of the board here at the park, and so Derek was able to join us.

We've been here at Cabri Regional Park looking out at the lake for almost three months and never been out on the water.

Heading out. Derek, Ruth, and Brad.

It was a gorgeous evening. It had been a hot day with a high of 33C (92) and very little wind. We set out at around 6:00pm as things were starting to cool down a bit.

Here we go!

Cattle cooling off at the shore.

You can explore over 150 miles of this lake!

The water was calm as can be.

Hard to believe this was taken at full speed!

Ha. Too funny.

There's a reason they call Saskatchewan "Land of the Living Skies".

This one is interesting!

Neat landscape.

More clouds.

These are old buffalo bones from an Indian kill site many years ago.

Parts of these hills have an odd type of soil with high concentrations of mica and nothing will grow on them.

Shoreline.

Some actual native trees...very rare.

We pulled in to the marina at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park to get some fuel.

Another interesting sky picture.

Just heading back around 9:00pm for the sunset.

What a great tour we had. Brad has spent his whole life in this area so we had lots of interesting commentary along the way. But that's enough play. Time to get to work now, we've got a busy weekend ahead of us!!

No time to search for a deal of the day for you, you'll just have to go Find your own Deal!

  1. Wow! What a neat place! It looks like you guys hit the jackpot! Maybe you will be like that guy who was the manager there for 28 years.

    1. Somehow, I don't think we will be here for 28 years but I can definitely see us being here for at least the next few years. It is a pretty interesting area. We are hoping in September to get out a see a few places in the area if we have a few hours to spare.

    1. Kevin thought it would be fun to throw that one in and see who was paying attention. Seems like you are the only one who noticed or at least the only one to comment on it! :-)

  12. We are always trying to tell travellers that you are really missing something by not travelling across the prairies.
Everywhere can be beautiful, if you take the time to really see what you are looking at.
Beautiful pics. Manitoba and Saskatchewan tourism should hire you guys!!

    1. You are totally right! Our perspective has certainly changed about Saskatchewan from spending our last two summers here. The main thing is to stay off the main highways and find these gems, there are lots of them out there.

Would love it if they would hire us!

  13. I'm originally frim Cabri so I have fond memories of the Regional Park. In fact I had planned to be there for the fireworks but had to cancel. Thanks for posting these pics and for taking care of our oasis in the prairies! P.s. I see Brad is just as tall as ever!

    1. Sorry you weren't able to make it to see the fireworks last night. They did a great job on them. We were talking to Denise and Brad while we were waiting for them to start and mentioned you to them, they knew right away who you were and yes, Brad is as tall as ever!
