Earthquake!

Our facebook followers already know that we felt an earthquake yesterday. There was a 6.4 earthquake (originally reported as 7.0) about 200 kms south of here late yesterday afternoon.

We were inside the motorhome at the time and for about 7 seconds we were rocking back and forth like there was a strong wind outside, or like someone was physically pushing on it. We looked at each other and I said "was that an earthquake?". I even went outside to make sure nobody WAS rocking us! Very strange sensation.

Just a little clarification on our blog. I mentioned last week that we are making some changes and one of those things was a facebook page. That doesn't mean that this blog is going away! We will continue our daily updates here as we have done for many years. The facebook page is to help us attract a different type of reader because most of our readers have been RV'ers. We want to attract a different crowd, one who is also interested in frugal world travel, and not just motorhome travel.

You can still "like" our facebook page though. There, you will get more immediate updates on certain things, and it's easier to make one line comments there than here.

But even though we will continue our daily updates here I'm still working on different formats, including getting away from blogger altogether. Haven't found anything I'm happy with yet, but I'm still working on it!

Okay, I'm going to take 5 seconds and go vote...hope you do too! We're up to 633 now in six days...which is great, but we got 140 the first day so interest is dropping off as I expected might happen. And we have to keep at it for another 3 1/2 weeks, so hopefully it won't get annoying...thanks everyone!

  2. Wow you are not kidding that is a great picture, just beautiful. I have a friend that blogged and posted pictures on Flicker, maybe that's worth looking at. This does seem to be a bit more reader friendly though.
I thought the contest ran until the 7th of June? You're doing better than us though, we're only at 200, going to be quite a ride till the end.
We'll keep voting for ya - good luck!

  3. I keep voting! I live in Illinois and every 10 to 15 years we get a small quake. The last one was stronger than usual but is small potatoes compared to most other places but it shook the house enough to wake us all up!

Glad it wasn't a big one! Have a great weekend and hopefully the vote count gets there!

  6. was wondering if you were close, saw the earthquake on news this a.m....also made me wonder how safe an RV would be in a quake...but would guess would probably be better than an office or apartment building. being on one of the biggest faults in the world we feel small quakes quite often....last one I was ready to go in a raise cain w/ my son, thought he was banging around in his room at 3a.m....turned out was a quake

  7. The first thing we thought of was you two when we heard about the quake. I'm so glad you're ok. The RV is the safest place to be, it's used to earthquakes every time you roll down the road. They SHAKE a LOT, I know I follow one. Be safe

  10. Don't do facebook or TV news or even radio news so I hadn't a clue. Glad it wasn't damaging where you are. I was in one in Southern California and it was a very weird sensation. Damage there though.

  11. I heard on the news that there were a great number of earthquakes all over the world around the same time. Of course we don't know why. The earth had a big belch I guess. Glad you're safe and sound.

  12. what a scare.... but i think being in an RV is safer than a building during an earthquake, right? at least if there are not any trees or telephone poles or power poles nearby that could land on you....

    glad you are all okay!
