Zihuatanejo (day 4)

The day started off cloudy, in fact it was almost overcast. Seemed a little odd not to have the sun shining. But it didn’t take very long and the clouds had disappeared so that it was blue sky and sunshine again for the rest of the day.

Didn’t sleep very well last night because there’s a little bar right next door to us and they were pretty busy because of Valentines Day. They had the music way too loud, and it went on pretty late. Had to have a nap later this morning before heading to the beach.

Sherman's parking spot in downtown Zihua. That's actually a primary school on the other side of us. I am taking this photo standing close to the bar that made all the noise last night!

These little guys were all excited to see Whiskey walking with us on the street down below.

We have a hummingbird nest right outside our window. The nest is about the size of half a walnut shell!

We took the local bus with John, as Wendy had a meeting for a local charity she’s involved in. We went to Playa Linda on the north side of Ixtapa, and then took a small ferry boat service to the Isla Ixtapa, a small island that has some palapa restaurants and is good for snorkeling. Ruth went in the water, but said that the rocks were rough to walk on and the water wasn’t very clear because it was a bit choppy and it stirred up the sand. Personally, I think that we have been spoiled by snorkeling at Playa La Entrega near Huatulco so now anything less isn’t very good.

These guys are wild crocs who live in their natural habitat, the lagoon next door to Playa Linda. There is a fence separating the lagoon from the parking area!

John and Kevin out for a walk on Isla Ixtapa

We had a snack at one of the beach restaurants, then headed back to town. We had left Whiskey in John and Wendy’s apartment. She seems quite happy to stay behind there, and Wendy was with her when we arrived back later in the afternoon.

Then we went out to a baked potato place for dinner. This place makes huge baked potatoes with various toppings on them. It’s a meal in itself…with drinks, total bill with a tip was 221 pesos ($18.50) for the four of us.

We’ve enjoyed our time with Wendy and John, but now it’s time to head further north along the coast. Zihuatanejo has been fun for a short visit, but it’s a little too touristy for us. We are headed up the Michoacan coast, which is very unspoiled, and we may not have internet the next few nights. Never know though, because our cellular internet stick has been pretty reliable!

  4. Karen and Steve...Wasn't sure whether they were going to come down after her. Sure was funny to see though.

  5. Contessa...Those Papas Locos were soooo filling. We wouldn't have even noticeD the hummingbird's nest if I hadn't seen the movement out of the corner of my eye. It was the size of a 1/2 a walnut shell and literally right outside the window.

Thanks for your website we will definitely have a look at it.

  6. Lindsey...Sorry missed your comment. Yes we have eaten out a lot this month, especially here in Zihua. We are visiting David's parents and they have a very small room and just a small kitchenette so really nowhere to make a meal and it was so hot in Sherman. Also most of the meals were at lunch time when we were out at the beach. Yes those baked potatoes were so good.
