Driving day

We're going to try and make it back to Cross, South Carolina...but we slept in a little bit. As you can see from the above pic, it's starting out to be a nice day. We'll check in with y'all later!

12:30pm
Made it to the I-95. Only 9 miles to the Georgia border. Uneventful drive, so far. Nice weather though, and no wind. Now, 4 hours of Interstate driving ahead of us...

11:00pm
As soon as we entered Georgia, the Interstate highway was under construction…for the next 60 miles (100 kms). It wasn’t too bad, and traffic was still moving along at 50 mph (80 kmh) or so, but the lanes were narrowed and there was a lot of truck traffic so it wasn’t a very relaxing drive. And then we had a section where it was pretty nice, until we entered South Carolina where they play “hide the pothole” with you. This is where there has been a pothole in the highway, and they fixed it. But they fix it so poorly that the pothole might as well have remained. All in all, the Interstate highway might get you there quick…but it’s not an enjoyable drive. Not for us, anyhow.

We stopped at a Hess travel center near Harleyville, SC, where we had read that they have an RV dump station. Not that we needed one badly, but figured we might as well take advantage of one if it was along the way. This Hess was a big truck stop type of place, and after driving all over their lot we eventually saw the sign saying “RV Services”. This pointed to a faucet above the ground that hadn’t been used in a long time, and a sewer pipe sticking a good 8” above the curb. Totally useless. The sewer pipe needs to be at ground level, or lower to make the most sense. So we didn’t bother. We can still easily make it past next weekend without needing to dump, so we’ll worry about it after the race on Sunday.

Made it to Pete and Pams lake house at around 5:45pm. Pam didn’t get home from work until about 6:30 and then they made thick juicy hamburgers and fries. I had two, and was I stuffed!

Sat and talked for a few hours. Pete is all set to take their motorhome to Mexico, but I have a feeling we’re still trying to talk Pam into it. Who knows, maybe they’ll join us on an RV trip to Mexico one winter!

Drove 388 miles (621 kms) today, which is almost certainly a one day record for us and Sherman.
