Piedra de Tlacoyunque

Tuesday March 10…10:45pm

We got ready to go this morning, and left the Acapulco Trailer Park at around 9:20am.

It was a fairly uneventful drive through mango and palm tree plantations. The road was in pretty good condition, and we even had the cruise control on at sections. There is a new toll road that allows you to avoid the town of Tecpan de Galeana. It cost us 43 pesos ($3.70 CAN, $2.75 US), and cuts about 10 kms off the trip.

At km 150, we took the turn towards Piedra de Tlacoyunque. After about 2 kms on a rough paved road, we reach the turtle sanctuary. There is a parking area by the beach, a couple of basic palapa structures, and nothing else besides the miles of undeveloped beach. We will free camp here for the night before doing the fairly short drive to the beach resort area of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo tomorrow.

Our spot for the night...

We drove about 140 kms (86 miles) today, and it took about 2 ½ hours.

Went for a long walk down the beach. There are some pretty big waves crashing in, and it wouldn’t be very good for swimming. There’s a rocky volcanic formation with a hole through it for some interesting scenery.

Sat and did some reading, while occasionally watching for some whales who were playing in the distance. Saw one actually come right out of the water like the dolphins do with a huge splash of water when he landed.

Total nights sleeping in a motorhome…501

March Grocery $ 84.51 CAN

March Overnight costs $ 62.10 CAN
