Los Barriles (day 5)

Friday February 1... 9:40pm

It's never boring, that's for sure. This morning after breakfast, a herd of cattle wandered down the arroyo towards the beach where we are camped. (An arroyo is a dry river bed that only has water in it during the rainy season from September to November) They came right up to our motorhome, and it
was a little nerve wracking because two of the bulls were fighting, and locked horns together a few times. There were quite a few people gathered around watching the two bulls squaring off. This went on for a good 20 minutes or more. I don't think they ended up hurting each other, but it was quite a spectacle to watch. Some of the other cattle got into a bag of garbage we had sitting beside Sherman...it turned out they wanted the grapefruit rinds that were in there.

Later in the morning, a group of RV'ers showed up. This particular camping spot is easy to get stuck in if you're not careful, because it's mostly sand. Whenever we're unsure, we get our of our vehicle and walk the route, including the spots where we think we may park for a few days or more. But it's funny watching other people who are not so careful. Every day that we've been here we've watched someone get stuck, and often it's quite comical watching how they attempt to get unstuck. This guy today decided he would drive right off the dirt track onto a bed of sand. Didn't get out to check, just plowed right in there. The other RV'ers he was with went and got a local worker with a backhoe but he didn't know what he was doing, and it took them quite a while to get the guy out of there. It was entertaining. Then, as what happened the last few days, the rest of the group get gunshy about parking here at all, and they end up going next door to the RV park and paying $25 or so per night.

Got the rest of the bodywork done on Steve's RV. Ready for primer and then paint, but will have to wait for a less windy day to finish that part of the repair.

Went into town for hamburgesa's again tonight. It's hard to resist such a good meal. I had two hamburgesa's and Ruth had a super burro and the bill came to $7.50. Afterwards, we all came back and played the LCR dice game. Everyone plays with 6 pesos (about 60 cents) and there were ten of us playing. Claire won the first game, and I won the second game. Lots of fun.
