We ended up buying a four day pass that includes all transportation inside the park including the cable cars.
The cost was 409 yuan ($85 CAD, $60 USD) each for the four day pass.
The East Gate entrance to Wulingyuan Scenic Area
From there we took a 20 minute shuttle bus ride to the famous Bailong Elevator. The elevator opened in 2002 to transport people up to the upper area. It's the equivalent of a 100 story building, however it doesn't look like that at first glance because only 55 stories are visible from the outside. The first 45 are embedded in the rock below.
Our first look at the Bailong Elevator.
The shuttle bus stop.
Our first look at some of the rock formations.
There are also wild monkeys.
But there are many signs that say "Don't mess with wild monkeys!"
Onto the elevator where I took a video of our ride to the top...
Like yesterday, the scenery is amazing and it's easy to take too many photos!
This is the area that inspired the scenery for the movie "Avatar".
It's a little difficult to see, but this is a natural bridge.
Looking down.
The red is another place where they place prayer ribbons on the opposite side of the natural bridge.
We took a cable car down to another area and got these views from the open window of the cable car..
Funny how stuff can grow on the rock.
The pavilion.
Ussie at Wulingyuan.
On the way back down the last cable car, we had a car by ourselves so I was able to stand and get some great shots out the window.
How is this still standing?
Back at the bottom.
We decided to walk the 2.5 kms from the East Gate back to the guest house.
The town of Wulingyuan itself is actually quite pretty.
Great first day. And we're going to go out and do it again today, however we are going to the lower area scenic river where most of the viewing is looking up instead of down!

Nice deal on this Samsung Galaxy Watch 8.
And in Canada...

Amazing scenery! Thanks for sharing…
ReplyDeleteIt is so beautiful and an area like we have never seen before. We can totally understand why it is a national park
DeleteWow, loved the elevator video - what views! Looks like a fascinating park.
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued by the tunnel in town, are those flowers of some sort? Very pretty!
Weare glad that you enjoyed it. It was a fast elevator ride too, I think from start to finish it is a total of about a minute long. Such an engineering feat!
DeleteIt was gorgeous up there and like something that we have never seen before. We would hate to see what the crowds are like on a weekend though because it already felt too crowded up there.
That tunnel is made up of a whole pile of fake pink flowers and at night it is lined with lights.
What a treat to be tagging along with you on this trip! Your pictures are amazing..
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad that you are enjoying this trip of ours here in China. We are really having an amazing time here and happy to bring it all to you virtually. 😊
DeleteUnbelievable scenery everywhere you look. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
ReplyDeleteIn reply to your question, the Tree Roots are probably anchoring those rocks in place.
Stay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
It really is and I don't think that we have ever seen scenery like this anywhere else on our travels, it is stunning.
DeleteThey had a sign up about the relationship between the rocks and the trees and they actually work together to keep each other in place. It is just amazing how the trees can stay alive with so little earth to give them their supply of water but I guess they get their water from the moisture of the clouds and rain.
