Just another beautiful day in Mexico...

We totally forgot that this was a long weekend here in Mexico!

Today is Revolution Day... a federal holiday. So when we saw a few more tents set up that looked like they were staying the night, it finally clicked.

Not that it really would have made any difference for us. We still would have come up here. It's just not as peaceful as we were expecting. We went for a hike and the parking was starting to get quite busy.

You can see Igor's roof in the shade towards the left.

Ruth on the trail.

Good thing they put up information signs!

They actually did have some newer trail direction signs.

Fire tower.

Lots of cool rock formations.

Some rock climbers installed a cross.

Ruth, heading towards the top.

There was a group on one of the nearby rocks.

The view looking north.

Lots of interesting rocks.

Ruth, making her way back down.

We got back to the campsite to find it really busy! Mostly day use people, and in fact Igor was surrounded by parked cars. I forgot to get a photo. One family had taken over the table that was right beside us. But we know that's the way things work here in Mexico. We said hello and everybody was friendly.

There was some pretty loud music overnight, although it was pretty far away. This is typical of Mexico on a weekend, so we're not surprised. The Mexicans love their music!

We were thinking of moving to a different location just for a change of scenery and some new hiking trails, but given that today is a holiday Monday we think we'll just stay put. It's actually a perfect spot both for sun for our solar panels, and the angle to get optimal Starlink internet access.

  1. Looks like quite a scramble to get back down in that last photo! The crowds would have driven us nuts, but yes, that's a holiday in Mexico (and in the US, for that matter). Still looks like a fantastic spot!

    1. It was definitely a bit of a scramble both going up and coming down but the view from the top was fantastic.

It was really only crowded on Sunday and even then only during the day and because we were out hiking for a good few hours it didn't really bother us. We actually really enjoying watching the Mexican families having such a great time together. Even the music at night wasn't that bad. You could certainly hear it was it wasn't real close to us.

  2. Kevin, are there snakes in those rocks where you are hiking? Also what specie of snakes are indigenous to Mexico mountains?

    1. There are snakes in El Chico National Park but we haven't seen any. They very there are ribbon snakes, garter snakes, rat snakes and several types of rattlesnakes.

Some of the indigenous snakes in the mountains in Mexico are venomous rattlesnakes like the black-tailed rattlesnake, Mojave rattlesnake, and rock rattlesnake, as well as non-venomous snakes such as the gopher snake, Mexican brown snake, and various garter snakes. Other indigenous snakes include the Twin-spotted Rattlesnake and the Madrean Narrow-headed Garter Snake, found in high-altitude environments.
