Kevin had bought a better quality bottle of Canadian whiskey though and it was still way, way cheaper than what we would pay in Canada but only a little more than that bottle of cheap stuff, not 5 to 6 times more.

As for fruits and vegetables being cheaper in the grocery store, we don't totally agree with that. In many countries that we have been to, especially Mexico we always buy our fresh produce at the local market it is much cheaper and fresher than the stuff in the supermarket. I think that is probably the case here in Spain too if you go to the market that the locals use rather than one of these artisan, tourist/expat ones.Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136052866820208847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-51556079209611383172017-01-20T02:27:42.871-05:002017-01-20T02:27:42.871-05:00We so totally agree with you Brigitte, we would mu...We so totally agree with you Brigitte, we would much rather have a few days of cold weather rather than months of it!Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136052866820208847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-30052839472463652382017-01-20T02:26:32.571-05:002017-01-20T02:26:32.571-05:00We have seen a lot of agriculture in our travels t...We have seen a lot of agriculture in our travels through Spain so far. We have seen lots of olive trees, of course but we have seen orange and lemon trees, lettuce, cabbage, artichoke and a little bit of grapes, obviously we haven't hit the wine region yet! I am sure there is more but that is what we do remember seeing so far.

Yes, we have been hearing that Arizona ha been having a cooler winter than normal, I hope it warms up there a bit more for you too!Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136052866820208847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-21562507885228460022017-01-20T02:21:33.823-05:002017-01-20T02:21:33.823-05:00I don't know if I would say that they make a g...I don't know if I would say that they make a good living but by most of what we have seen even out in the country, people in general seem to do fine. We haven't really spoken to anyone here about wages though. I am sure that there were a few citizens at the market but in that particular area, we think most of the people are tourists and expats. I don't think the food was organic but it sure did look like nice fruit and vegetables, they actually looked almost too perfect! But the key is the name of the distributor, It is imported as bulk. that's one of the reasons why you get a lower price. Go to a liquor store and check the price of true imported Canadian whiskey (The distributor will be a Canadian company )it would be about 5 or 6 times that amount (somebody's got to pay the shipping)
Citrus concentrated juice / fruit concentrate / California wine are some things Shipped by rail tankers to the East Coast to be shipped to Europe,, The. Import tariffs tax is different on those bulk product as well.
As for the vegetables and fruit look at the box that it came in ,, in most cases it will tell you the country of origin they buy it from a wholesale producer and sell it retail or a bit higher to make a profit
You know the price is going to be cheaper at a grocery store because they could buy in larger bulk
Mister edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00293854096422236002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-9617706868636803442017-01-19T13:08:23.719-05:002017-01-19T13:08:23.719-05:00Yes hope it warms up for you! Maybe that is why veggies and fruits are expensive...they have to import them? It's cold here in AZ too, overcast and rain expected. I love that they dress for dinner...I still do when I am invited and bring flowers, cookies, fruits, or a bottle of wine. My granddaughter started dressing for dinner without me telling her while she was here with me (she was a teenager at the time) :-)Rita from Phoenixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08722798328449733244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-27602909086364759922017-01-19T10:22:36.040-05:002017-01-19T10:22:36.040-05:00Kevin and Ruth, at those prices the people must ea...Kevin and Ruth, at those prices the people must earn a good living, do they?
