We always try to keep an open mind when we travel, especially when it comes to culture. We may not always agree with it but we are willing to learn more about it in order to understand the people an their ways better.

Kevin has always said that if we had the opportunity we would go just about anywhere and I am sure we would meet wonderful people and have some interesting moments, hopefully good ones! ;-)Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136052866820208847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-79249371868565870272016-05-17T22:59:07.767-04:002016-05-17T22:59:07.767-04:00Anyone's bad experience (or fear of one) may b...Anyone's bad experience (or fear of one) may be the same case with different details as those who are afraid of Mexico. You two have shown that the journey is what you make it, and if you look for good places and good people, you will find them. Every country's culture is worth learning about, and every country's people have hearts. (Some may be like the Grinch, very hard and tiny, but they are still people just like you and me.) I think a memorable visit could be made to virtually anywhere if the travelers do their homework, have realistic expectations, and put their all into making their presence a great experience for the locals as well. You are great examples of that formula.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12957769699606351020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7171307653508307040.post-87794530921429286602016-05-09T13:01:22.694-04:002016-05-09T13:01:22.694-04:00Isn't it though, Chris! ;-)

We went to many different areas of Puerto Rico a couple years ago. I don't remember trash on any of the beaches we visited. There was a lot of poverty in certain areas (compared to where I'm from), but I'm not sure why that would be a reason to avoid the island. Puerto Rico is in bad financial shape right now. City buses have been throttled back to little or no service and not allowed to sit idling to save fuel. We have friends in PR who have lived there all their lives and they say they haven't seen it this bad.
