We decided we needed some exercise

Just a bit of a relax day yesterday, although we did mange to get out and about a little bit.

Most of the Mexico RV caravan group has learned that Ruth used to be a hair stylist, so it's been convenient for them, and some pocket money for us. She had two haircuts scheduled for this morning.

Here is the 9:30am appointment...

Haircuts at the beach.

We learned that there is a big SpeedQueen laundromat in nearby Puerto Aventuras just south of here. We went with Mike and Linda in their pickup truck and the four of us got some laundry done.

Nice modern laundromat.

Back at Sherman, we had some lunch and then went for a walk down the beach with Mike, Linda, and Barbara.

Mike, Sophie(the dog), Linda, Barb, and Ruth.

Nobody around but these tourists from Playa del Carmen who passed by on a catamaran.

Ruth on the beach.

Just us.

We decided we needed some exercise, so Ruth and I took off walking down to that far point you see in the photo above. Good workout, but it's too hot. You sweat like a pig when you try and get some exercise around here. We did 4.6 kms (2.8 miles) start to finish.

Don't know what kind of bird. Anybody?

The coast became rocky near the point, but there was a path off to the left.

At the point, we came across this heavy rusty thing. No idea what it is.

And then back to Sherman again. I had a nap for a half an hour and then it was time for happy hour!

It will be a full day today though. Taxis are picking us up at 9:00am to go to the nearby Xcaret amusement park. Not something we would normally do on our own because it's priced at $90 USD ($115 CAD, 1,700 pesos) per person for the day. But, I expect it will be kind of fun.

    1. The weather has been more than warm but if it is going to be hot, then the beach is where you need to be.

Thanks for continuing to follow along on the blog with us. :-)

    1. You areight we are never to old! The one big different between Xcaret and Disney is that Xcaret does not have rides.

We are looking forward to getting to Chetumal where we will be much further away from all the hubbub of this busy area and back into the REAL Mexico.

  7. Local bird expert here on Cozumel confirms the above identification!

  8. Kevin: Was surprised by your weather report so I checked the weather in Playa. It has been in the high 70's and low 80's during your stay. Most of us would consider that ideal, not hot. I had to check as Playa was ALWAYS a mild weather place to visit when we lived in Belize. To each his own! Cheers!

    1. It has been more humid than normal on the pacific coast and i suspect that is also the case over there. That is what makes the heat more uncomfortable. I have seen more cloud this Jan than in any other year.

    2. Yes, the humidity definitely plays a big part in making things feel much hotter!

  9. Well, here in Paamul it has been highs of 30C (86F), and one night the LOW was 24C (75F). Sorry, but when people see the obvious need to have constant air conditioning, it is too hot. Yes, each to their own.

    1. One trick is to have personal fans and have an inverter to run them. It's amazing how much difference it makes to have a constant breeze playing over your exposed body while sleeping. I installed an inverter behind my breaker panel that automatically powers up the outlets next to the bed, plus a couple of others when not plugged in. Did it mainly for my CPAP, but it works well for fans as well.

    2. We have a 12 volt fan that works great in our bedroom at night and hardly uses any battery power at all.

  10. What beautiful pictures of the coastline and the beaches! Is the trip to Xcaret included in this trip? That is expensive!

  11. We had to cancel it on the Fall trip because of torrential rain and try to make up for it by making some optionals included down the road. I have never been there, also not my style so i will be curious to see your evaluation of it.

  12. BTW anyone considering taking a caravan has to realize that sometimes things have to be changed. For example a trip to Durango over the new Mazatlan-Durango highway had to be cancelled for the copper Canyon group due to a tanker truck caught fire on a bridge. The heat was so intense it burned right through asphalt, concrete and damaged the superstucture. Its closed until August. They hope to have 2 lanes open on it for Easter. 4 years ago it got blocked by snow for 4 days. In Mexico, expect the unexpected. Wagon Masters like Kevin & Ruth are skilled at improvisation. They have to be.

    1. I think that most people realize that certain things are just out of our hands and that everyone has to learn to adapt, that is part of the adventure! :-)
