Last blog post before Mexico!

Most of our regular readers know that we write up a new blog post for you every day. And it's normally published before 10:00am, depending on what time zone you're in. But that schedule could deviate a little over the next three months!

For example, tomorrow we will be up before the sun in order to make it to our border crossing at 7:00am!

So you're not going to get another update from us until we are at our first destination in Saltillo. That will probably be tomorrow evening, and it may be well into the evening hours! The next three days are going to be really busy for us.

Today, we've got a bunch of last minute stuff to do. Somewhere along the way, I still have to change Sherman's oil, and they won't let me do it here at the RV "resort". No vehicle maintenance allowed. So, when we're out picking up some last minute things I'll find an empty lot somewhere and just pull in and do it.

We had our first official group meeting yesterday afternoon. We went over a variety of items and answered a bunch of questions. We talked about cellular and wifi and internet in Mexico, pets and Mexican dogs, ATM's and banking, Buying fuel, and fuel scams, tipping, toilets, dumping black and grey water, fresh water, drinking water, border paperwork, and radio communication, among other things.

Lots to go over, and it's fun for us to be able to lead these people into what is very unknown territory for most of them.

Hey, there's us!

So... 12 rigs, 24 people, and 7 dogs!

There is 1 travel trailer, 2 fifth wheel trailers, 2 class B motorhomes, 1 Class C motorhome, and 6 Class A motorhomes.

6 American couples, and 6 Canadian couples.

Ranging in age from 52 to 78 (I think)!

Many have spent at least some time in Mexico, however I think two couples have never been to mainland Mexico. Quite a few have been to the Baja peninsula.

They seem like a really sociable group of people. We think this is going to be a fantastic trip!

Five of the rigs in our group.
Photo taken at dawn this morning.

So, that's all for now... next blog post will be from Mexico!

  1. Safe travels. No real need for any explanation regarding blog posts although, in your case, a missing post or two makes one begin to wonder if you've fallen off the face of the earth. I'm sure your group will have a fabulous time. You both look somewhat scholarly in that pic.

  6. Curious ... how long is the biggest rig with you? Does anyone require Ultra Low Sulpher Diesel (ULSD) gas? Will it be available?

    Excited to follow your journey!

    1. Longest Class A motorhome is 36 ft, I think, but there are a couple of fifth wheels that will be more than that with truck and trailer together. Yes, two require ULSD and we have the list of stations that currently supply it. Supposed to be full roll out by December of this year.

    2. We did the caravan in our 2016 B+ with a Mercedes diesel that requires ULSD. We followed the list and mostly filled up from stations on the list. There were exceptions, but we didn’t have any trouble. Supposedly the engine under load from highway driving helps. We also carried a gas can just in case. RV performed well.

    3. Yes the list worked well. Only gap of any significance is Guadalajara to just north of Mazatlan and i suspect there are more selling ULSD than on the list which I obtained back in March. Too bad you can't just tell by looking at it or smelling it.

LOL too bad that stupid diesel can of mine didn't. Why the heck do they design those things so they are now impossible to use?

    1. No worries, it ended up being a bit of a hectic day for us as well and we really ended up being rushed for time trying to get last minute things done and helping out others who had questions or needed a little extra help here and there.

Have a great winter and hope you enjoy following along with us virtually. :-)
