It almost seems too cheap...

When we go back to Ottawa at the end of September we'll need some transportation. So I've been checking the car rental prices, and came across a website that looks like it's going to pay off.

I had found a pretty good deal through Thrifty Car Rental. Including taxes, it was going to be $396 CAD ($315 USD) for three weeks. Not bad, and I booked it.

But then I came across a website called www.autoslash.com where you can input your rental deal and they will continue to search for a better deal. I know from past experience that car rental prices change constantly and they're always putting out new promotions and discount codes. It's almost as crazy as airfare prices!

So this morning I got an email saying they found me a better deal... this time with Dollar Car Rental, and it's at $346.40 CAD ($275 USD) for the 3 week rental. Yep, taxes and fees included and unlimited mileage. It almost seems too cheap, doesn't it?

The neat thing about car rental reservations is that you don't have to put any money up front and not even a credit card number... so you can book and cancel as many times as you want and it doesn't cost you a dime to get the very best rate.

So given that our rental is still 77 days away, it's possible that an even better deal will come our way. :-)

  1. I use Costco travel to rent a car...always cheaper than anyone. In Alaska we rented a car for a week for $125 while others were quoting over $300. Again in Cancun, Mexico we rented a van for our group $175, a 15 passenger van.

    1. Well, your Costco travel doesn't even come close this time around, so it's always wise to compare all options.

  3. Do you take out insurance or have a credit card that covers rentals?

    1. When I use the credit card to pay for it, I have car rental insurance.

  4. you probably already know this,, but when you use your credit card for the car insurance it only covers the accident. not the time that it sits waiting to be repaired. that comes out of your pocket.
The car rental agency charges you for the days lost out of their rental pool.

The first reservation you made. keep it right up until the time you're supposed to pick it up. if the second rental agency doesn't come up to your standards you could always go back to the first one.

  5. One other thing,,when you're flying into Ottawa, have you added car rental to your airfare and returning to Ottawa and fly out again sometimes it's cheaper booking airfare and car rental at the same time,
Sometimes The airlines have a sweetheart deal with the car rental agencies,, it's always worth that shot ??

    1. We booked the airfare through the vouchers we were given when we were bumped, so never had the option to check. I don't think I would go that route anyhow unless it were a truly exceptional deal.

    1. In a rental RV, yes you can rent in the U.S. and go into Canada. At least that's my understanding with RV Share.
