May Expenses

Wow, another month bites the dust. May has come and gone, just like that. And, we're already 1/5th of the way through our time here this season! Not that anybody is counting...ha ha.

Expenses wise, we spent quite a lot of money! But a big chunk of it won't get expensed right away. We bought the plane tickets for our fall flight to Romania, but they will only get included in our expenses once we take the flight. We find it gives a truer picture of how much we spend on a trip when all the bills for that trip are in the month that we actually do the trip.

(Note: The following figures are in Canadian dollars. For U.S. dollar equivalent, you can subtract about 25%.)

Gasoline: Spent $157 on gasoline during the month of May. Besides gas for the little blue car, I topped up the motorhome when we brought it in to Swift Current to have the new tires put on. This way, it will have a full tank when we give it to our motorhome exchange people next week. Then, they just have to bring it back full, and everybody is happy.

Groceries: We've got Lindsey and the grandkids with us, so spent more than normal on our last grocery shop of the month. And, the freezer is full on some things that we stocked up on to last for the summer. So our grocery expenses of $676 for the month are abnormally high. This will average itself out through the summer though as we strive for a typical month of around $500.

Alcohol: Nope. We refuse to pay the ridiculous booze prices here in Canada.

Miscellaneous: Not bad, at $195. This includes $79 a month for car insurance, and some minor items for Sherman's interior. The new cutting board, curtains, stuff like that.

Motorhome: New tires, at $887.

So, a total of $1,915. About what we expected, knowing that we were going to put new tires on Sherman.

June and July should both be quite a lot lower as we don't have any abnormal expenses planned.

Oh by the way...we had a record month in May from your use of the Amazon links that we supply through this site. Your purchases helped earn us $690 USD ($900 CAD!) last month! Wow!

So, thank you for remembering to click on one of these links prior to putting anything in your cart. When you do that, we get a small comission...and you pay the same price that you normally would anyhow.

This money goes directly towards our travel expenses so that we can continue to bring you stories from our adventures around the world during the off season.

    1. If it wasn't for the tires our month would have been pretty good but you have to keep up with the workings of a motorhome, just like a house.

    1. Yep, every little bit helps. Would be nice to be able to do that every month but we aren't counting on it.
