Booked another flight!

We finish our contract here in Saskatchewan on September 30, and the very next day we'll be in Ottawa, Ontario!

Yes, we'll still be driving the motorhome down to Mexico City area in time for our flight to Colombia at the end of October. It'll just be a slightly more rushed drive.

Here's the plan...

We'll leave here on the 30th and do the three hour drive to Regina airport. Gotta figure out where to leave the motorhome during our five days away in Ontario. Then October 5th, we return to Sherman and spend the next three weeks driving down to Valle de Bravo near Mexico City.

That's a 4,600 km (2,850 mile) distance in 21 days. We typically like to average 200 kms (120 miles) a day, so at 220 kms (136 miles) it won't be much more. And we'll probably do a couple of longer days at the beginning so that we can relax a little more towards the end.

Then a couple of days to take it easy before we fly to Colombia for our six week visit.

And why are we going to Ottawa, you ask?

Last year I missed the annual get together with the friends I've known since we were teenagers. It takes place October 2-4 this year and I didn't want to miss it two years in a row. Also, I don't envision a spring trip back to Ottawa, so we don't know when we'll see the family again. This way, Ruth gets a quick grandkids fix prior to our winter away. I had been keeping my eye on airfares, knowing of course that you can't get a truly great deal flying within Canada because taxes are so high. But when I saw a Regina to Ottawa flight for $217 one way I figured that's as good as it's going to get so I booked it!

We have just enough airmiles saved up to book the return flights that way, but with the Canadian Air Miles program we still have to pay the taxes of $72 per person. So our round trip tickets from Regina to Ottawa and back will still cost us $578 for the two of us. A fairly expensive long weekend away, but you can justify anything you want.

Beautiful weather here at the park...sunny and warm all week!

Great deal today only on a cordless vacuum cleaner. This model would be great for the motorhome!

And at Amazon.ca here in Canada, the 7" Acer tablet that I bought the other day is on sale at exactly the same price I got it for. Today only. Ours is supposed to arrive tomorrow so I can't give you a review, but if you're not sure if a tablet is right for you this is a great way to try out a decent cheap one to see if you maybe want a better one in the future. For $79, its hard to go wrong...

  3. I hate how high the taxes are on the free airmiles tickets - when we book our RBC Avion free tickets the taxes and fees are half of what the airmiles ones are.

    1. We hate that Canada charges such high taxes on the flights, even a good deal isn't such a good deal after those have been added on. :-(

  5. Sounds like a great deal and a great idea. That's why we are all retired so we can live it up designing our lives as we go. You two are experts!
