Turning up the heat

Hottest day of the year so far. At 8:00am this morning, the temperature is already 26C (79F) and they're calling for a record high 34C (93F) today.

It's gonna be a hot one!

Our daughter and her family are doing a big move today. They've packed their bags and sold almost everything and have loaded up a small U-haul truck and are moving to Ottawa. So we've enjoyed our several visits to Nova Scotia over the last five years or so, but I'm afraid it'll be a long time before we head that way again.

They're going to do the 1,500 km (930 mile) drive over three days though, so they're taking the time to relax a bit along the way. Besides, her husband Justin will be driving the U-Haul towing one of their cars, and Lindsey is following with the children. They won't be making very good time, so they've planned well by not trying to rush it.

And while our daughter is making a big move, our son is traveling. We're envious because he's headed to Bermuda for a week by himself. I found him a steal of a deal airfare a few months ago, and he jumped on it. We'll make it there some day! Airfare can be cheap, but it's a fairly expensive place once you're there. Luckily he's staying with a couchsurfer for three nights and then has an apartment rental for four nights...at $125 per night.

Cassie, enjoying her spot in the morning sun.

Thing are going okay with our dog sitting. Cassie is pretty good for the most part, but she had been a bit annoying waking us up in the night a few times. We've now got it figured out, we hope, and she seems to be making it through the night now.

Nice sunset at Lake Diefenbaker.

  1. You sure are a family on the move:) We are hoping to escape the heat here in Fl, as we are heading to the Canadian Maritime region for nearly two months and Nova Scotia is on our list.

    1. You will love the Maritimes, just make sure you bring lots of bug spray the mosquitoes are usually bad. Thermacell works great if you want to sit outside! We have loads of information on just about all of Nova Scotia in our archives mostly June and July of 2008 (this also includes PEI), and April, May, June and the very beginning of July in 2011.

  2. I must have missed something, and I do realize the Blog is not about your kids, but was the move to Ontario job related? Kind of obvious I would imagine, but you didn't elaborate.
That whole "moving" thing doesn't appeal to me much at all. More power to the Young 'uns.

    1. Sorry Bob, I could have expained. No, they both had good jobs. But Lindsey wanted to be closer to her family and friends who are in Ottawa and area, it's Justin who is originally from Nova Scotia. So they simply decided to change things up a little! But yes...the whole moving thing is a pain.

    1. They don't have a new home yet but once they get there they will be looking for a house. In the meantime they will be staying at my Dad's house and helping out there.

  4. I got to Bermuda once, for twenty minutes. Just enough time to walk off one Coast Guard cutter, make a phone call home and then board another cutter and headed back out to sea.

Hope your soon has enough time to enjoy himself in Bermuda. ;c)

    1. Too bad you didn't get to spend more time there, guess you will just have to go back for a visit. I am sure that Alex will have a great time exploring the island.

  5. When Jim was working for GM dealerships, they gave away trips for incentives to their high achievers. Jim won several trips and one of them was to Bermuda. We had a wonderful time especially since most of the cost was taken care of. I am so glad we don't "move" anymore except to take our home with us. Hot here in AZ but as long as it's not over 110 I think we can handle it.

    1. That is the best way to visit a place! How lucky but I know it took a lot of work on Jim's behalf to have earned that trip. I got to go on a 4 day cruise from my work for the same reasons, so I know the kind of work needed.

Wow, 110 is hot! 95 is hot here, especially when you have to work outside in it but at least is wasn't hot and humid.

  6. Moving so much easier when you are in a Motorhome :) I wish them luck in their move. We are moving as well, everything in storage that can't fit into the Motorhome and we are wheel-bound as of July 1.
Not sure how long we will live in the Motorhome, but I go sign the papers at the RV park on Wednesday so will see how it goes!!!

    1. I agree, it is much easier in the motorhome. I think moving is always and good idea every once it a while because it forces you to get rid of some of your "stuff"!

Good luck with the full time motorhome living. The park looks nice so you should enjoy it there.
