A great birthday!

First of all, thanks for all the comments and birthday wishes yesterday. You've given us some great ideas of places to stop along the way over the next few weeks to make our Arizona trip all the better. We are especially looking forward to Canyon de Chelly, which we had never heard of before.

We'll probably get back on the road Tuesday!

Pretty mellow birthday yesterday, but it was a good day and I enjoyed it. Never really left the motorhome, until late afternoon when we walked over for happy hour to Doug's RV which is parked about a half mile away. I got Sherman's front sway bar bushings changed, so that job is done. And I had an afternoon nap for an hour. And I got caught up on some computer stuff, but I'm still behind. Going to have to spend more time on it today.

Spoke to both our kids yesterday, so that was nice too!

Some of you were asking what my birthday dinner was, but we decided to put it off until today. We went over to Doug's for happy hour and snacks around 5:00pm, and were having such a good time that it was almost 9:00pm when we got back! Didn't feel like making a full supper at that hour so we just had a salad and that was enough. However...I think that Thai Chicken Curry is on the menu for this evening... :-)

Oh, and we had a pleasant birthday surprise yesterday afternoon. Our other neighbors Ron and Cindy had been into town to do some grocery shopping, and they stopped by with a cake!! And a jar of local honey. Thanks again guys!

We brought the cake over to Doug's.

Kevin, cutting his birthday cake.

It was rich! Holy chocolate, Batman!

Doug also had a birthday beer for me!

Yep, 53 years young!

Doug's an interesting guy. He's a retired electrical engineer and so he likes to tinker with electronics. He's made some interesting modifications to his RV, such as remote controlled tiltable solar panels. We enjoyed the tour and discussion of his rig.

Doug, and his homemade wind device.

The top of it has a small solar panel on it. The panel is attached to a small battery pack that powers some different colored LED lights. When it's dark, the lights light up, and even a minor amount of wind spins it around.

I always thought it would be very cool to have my own personal weather station. Some day when I have a few extra dollars lying around, I'm going to buy something like this, and mount it to the motorhome!

    1. Canyon de Chelly sounds pretty cool and right up our alley so we think it is worth the little detour.

  3. I have often wondered why motorhomes don't have wind generators in addition to solar panels. They are very popular on sailboats.

    1. Kevin said that the wind generators haven't come down enough in price to make it worth the cost, whereas solar panels have really come down in price. I think they are a great idea and maybe one day when they are worth it we just might get one too.

  4. Sounds like you had the perfect birthday Kevin! Love the photo of you holding the beer-definitely my kind of shot. I'm always taking photos of the beer on our trips.
Just for your interest I am making sure I list a tiny saving each Sunday on my blog-just to make you laugh!

    The cake looks delicious...home made?

  5. Wait a cotton-pickin' minute. How did I miss your birthday? Anyway, glad you had a great birthday. The cake looks as delicious as it tasted. Good job, Ruth. Paul said he wants to be 53 again. Sorry to tell him that that ain't going to happen.

    1. Your life is just too busy, you are going to have to slow things down a little so you don't miss these little moments again. lol!

Kevin said it was delicious but very, very rich. I didn't make make it though, Cindy and Ron our neighbours down the road brought it over for Kevin, which was very thoughtful of them.

Tell Paul that as long as he thinks he is 53, that is all that matters!
