Christmas on the Road

Merry Christmas!

Just a little different post today as we take a look back at the places we've spent Christmas day since leaving Ottawa in the fall of 2007.

This is our 8th Christmas on the road! Back in 2007 we were on our first ever motorhome excursion to Mexico. We had driven down into Baja California and we spent Christmas on the beach with our friends Glen and Steve from the U.K.

The winter of 2008 also had us traveling Mexico with our friends Glen and Steve, however this time we were in mainland Mexico. We had almost made it to the beaches of the Mayan Riviera near Cancun...but not quite!

Steve, Glen, and Ruth. Oh, and our dog Whiskey, under the table! Christmas 2008.

2009 was the year Ruth's Mom passed away and we had stayed up north that fall. We decided to take the little blue car on a quick road trip to Nova Scotia to visit with our daughter and her husband and his families. We picked up our son along the way from where he was going to school in New York state, and we were off!

In 2010, we were back on the road in Mexico! This time, traveling with just the two of us and Sherman our motorhome. we wanted to experience Christmas with our friends in Puerto Escondido, and our son Alex flew down to Acapulco to meet us there.

In the evening, we went to a little church in a small town and took part in the celebrations there.

We were even given the opportunity to take a few hits on the pinata!

Christmas of 2011 was extra special. It was our first Christmas with a grandchild! Yes, grandson Cameron was born in April of that year, and even though we didn't spend Christmas with him, we thought of him a lot that day. Of course a child of that age doesn't even know it's Christmas, but that doesn't mean he can't participate!

Meanwhile, we were having our own great Christmas. We had returned to one of our favourite places in Mexico, Hacienda Contreras RV Park. We had a fun time with owners Barb and Sal, and the other campers who showed up that year.

Christmas Day, 2011.

In December of 2012, we were back at Hacienda Contreras, for one of the best Christmas parties ever! There were quite a few friends at the park that year, including Chris and Juan who we are currently visiting with!

Wow! What a great party for Christmas 2012!

2013 was very different for us. We were 10,000 miles away from any of our friends and family! We ended up at a beautiful spot in Namibia, Africa. Christmas Eve was spent at the Canyon Roadhouse, and Christmas day we traveled to the fantastic Canyon Lodge. We had Christmas pretty much alone, but it was sure a beautiful spot to enjoy it.

This year, we're once again in Mexico enjoying Christmas with friends. Just a small celebration, but that's okay too.

  20. We try to recap each year but this year had to dig out the diary to fill in one gap which turned out to be in Australia! Still rate the first Mexico Christmas at Mulege as one of the best.
