Mossel Bay

We wandered around the resort town of Mossel Bay yesterday. Not really a great deal to do there, but they have a museum that's worthwhile. Besides what is probably the worlds largest display of seashells, there's also a full size working replica of the first Portuguese ship that sailed to this part of Africa.

The "Bartolomew Dias" has only sailed one voyage. In 1988, on the 500th anniversary of the original voyage, this ship sailed from Portugal to Mossel Bay, South Africa where it was dry docked after only one trip and is now on display for generations to come.

The Bartolomew Dias.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around the museum.

View of Mossel Bay beach from the Museum grounds.

This is cool! They've got a natural swimming pool made out of the rocks on the shore.

The shoreline looking west from Mossel Bay.

The Mossel Bay lighthouse.

The view out the back of our flat.

    1. We loved the pool as well, we wished we had our swimming suits with us that day. The area is definitely a big vacation area both for holiday rentals and for caravaning/camping but there are lots of people who live there year round too.
