Sherman fired right up!

We've been running our fridge off electricity since we got here, because our propane tank was nearly empty. But propane is much cheaper and RV refrigerators are more efficient when switched over to "gas " mode. We could have had a propane truck come into the campground to fill us up, but Sherman has been sitting for more than six months and it would do him good to go for a drive.

First though, I did some fridge maintenance. One of the most common RV fridge problems is soot and residue building up on the burner tube. I checked the burner, and sure enough it needed a cleaning. In fact, there was a LOT of crap built up, and all of it just from sitting unused. I can't remember exactly the last time I checked it, but I do it at least every six months.

That is a lot of crap!

This is what came out of the burner itself!

With that done, we got Sherman ready to go for a drive. Once again, he fired up as if he was driven only yesterday! Raring to go, we got him down off the blocks and up to the garage so that we could top up his tire pressure to the right level before driving him. Then it was only 10kms (6 miles) or so to the propane place.

We put in 65 litres (17.2 gallons) at 6.46 pesos per litre (about $1.95 per gallon). Total of 420 pesos ($33.60). That should last us 6-8 weeks depending on how much we have to use the furnace on chilly mornings!

We had some more campers show up yesterday. Whit and Jan from California pulled in. We have bumped in to Whit and Jan a couple of times during our Mexico travels over the years. They invited everybody over for happy hour.

Happy hour!

We all decided to go into town for dinner. There's one restaurant that we really like because they serve you so many different kinds of appetizers from the time you sit down until your meal arrives. You almost don't need your meal! Sal offered to take us all in their big pickup truck because there's a cap on the back as well as a bench seat.

Ruth and Kevin, off to dinner!

All the food on the table is what they have brought before we even ordered our meals! There's no extra charge. Ruth and I each had Pescado Filete Ajo. (Garlic fish fillet). Total including drink and tip was 260 pesos ($20.80).

    1. Whit built it himself and it is definitely built for the kind of traveling that they do.

  5. How do you clean that off the fridge, just scrape it?

You should do a blog on your maintenance (so I can copy and paste!) and when you do it and what you do.

    Just sayin'

    Cheers!

    1. Kevin more or less explains how to do the fridge maintenance in this past post. www.travelwithkevinandruth.com/2011/10/picking-potatoes-at-600am.html

He tries to do this at less once a year but prefers to do it every six months. If you still have any questions, don't hesitate to email him.

    1. Sounds like you are enjoying yourself down in Acapulco, John. Not sure what our plans are yet. There is a possiblity that we will be driving the car down and staying in cheap cabana's or tenting. I am sure that Kevin will get back to you with our plans when we have a better idea ourselves. Thanks for the offer, we will keep it in mind. We would definitely like to spend more time with you than we did last time.
