Happy Birthday Ruth!

A week or so ago, I took apart the front brakes on the little blue car because the slide on one of the calipers was seized. Cleaned and lubricated where it was needed and put everything back together. No problem.

The last time Sherman the motorhome was driven any kind of distance was the middle of March. At the time, we had noticed a pretty bad squeal had started coming from one of the front brakes. I knew we wouldn't be driving him for a while, so I just left it knowing that we'd have to have it looked at sometime before taking him out again.

But I have lots of time on my hands, and Sal has lots of tools here. So I figured I would have a look at the motorhome brakes myself. Well of course they're a little more heavy duty that the little blue car's front brakes!

I have a repair manual, and the internet to use as a resource. I got one side jacked up yesterday and supported, and got the wheel off and had a good look at things. I think I understand the system well enough now to take the caliper off and have a better look at the pads and make sure everything is working correctly so maybe I'll do that today. Even though Sherman now has 75,000 miles (120,000 kms) on him I expect these are still the original brakes. I know that nothing has been changed in the five years we've had him, but given that most of those miles are on the highway, and we use the engine for braking on hills, the brakes have actually had very little wear. Oh, we did have a leaky rear wheel brake cylinder changed a couple of years ago.

Oh, did you know that someone is having a birthday today? Yes, I had to change the blurb on "about Kevin and Ruth" because one of us isn't 50 years old anymore!

Happy Birthday Ruth!

We are going to order another pair so hopefully I will have them by Christmas.

  7. Lookin' good Ruth. Was that 51 or 35? Hmmm, looks the same to me! Have a happy birthday.

Kevin, maybe you can show me how to clean the burner on the refer and clean the water heater. We never use the water heater. Time to fire it up though.

  11. Some Info. for you - I would imagine you already know about this website but I could not readily find mention of it on your blog. It's called Boondockers Welcome (similar concept to Harvest Hosts).

And a Happy Birthday to Ruth!

    1. Thanks Barb, we did know about it and they also have a facebook page. I don't think we have mention this particular site on the blog before, guess that's why you didn't see it mentioned.

    2. Have you used the boondockers welcome site? They have a membership fee and we are considering signing up but kind of wonder about them vs. Harvest Hosts (I do already understand the basic difference between what these two offer).

We had ordered glasses from FrimOO - arrived in good shape and we are happy with them!

    3. No we haven't yet, I think it started after we were in Mexico last year and we haven't been out of Mexico with the motorhome since. Kevin says that we would sign up for both Harvest Hosts (ours has run out since we last used them) and boondockers welcome and then would have no real need for an RV park as between the two there are lots of choices for places to stay.

So glad to hear that you are happy with your new FrimOO glasses.

    1. Hi David and Marina, yes we remember you and would love to meet up with you again. We didn't have much time together the last time. Sure hope that you make it to Hacienda Contreras RV Park. We will definitely be here at least until the beginning of January and then we will take off for more exploring but making it back here again probably by the end of February or beginning of March.

Yes, we know of the www.boondockerwelcome.com site and we also have "like" their facebook page.
