April, 2012. Our cheapest month ever.

But the cost of having an inexpensive month is that we didn't really do very much. That was the plan though, because we were due for a break after a busy March when we took in the sights of both Mexico City and Las Vegas.

We didn't spend any money on gasoline because Sherman didn't move. That means we also didn't spend any money on toll roads. And we had filled the propane tank in March and it's still working on that fill-up. It is getting low, however it will last until we leave here next Sunday. We do have the refrigerator switched over to electric though, so we will have a small electricity bill to pay when leave. But that will be expensed in May.

So that brings us to the items where we did spend money...

Groceries: $178.47. Yes, that is a full months worth of groceries for two, and we hardly ate out. And that even includes $18 or so that was spent on the very last day of the month. Pretty well stocked up for the first week of May, and we have to use up as much as we can because we don't know for sure when we'll be back. If we average out the last 7 months, we spent $201.06 a month on groceries.

Alcohol: $101.91. Slightly below our average of $116.13 per month.

Miscellaneous: $172.80. This is personal items and laundry and dentist and that sort of thing. Higher than our average of $129.69 per month.

Entertainment: $55.12. That's it. Includes restaurant meals. We're a cheap date. Monthly average is $94.09.

We didn't incur any campground expenses because we were looking after the place when Barb and Sal went away and so that they can go back to their home in town. If you can come across a camp host deal like that in Mexico it will drastically lower your expenses.

So that's it. We spent only $508.30 in April, the cheapest month since we took off almost five years ago. That lowers our total monthly average expenses for Mexico to $1,020.55 including everything. Even includes our trips to Mexico City and Las Vegas last month.

It will be interesting to see how the next few months work out. I believe that because we won't have much in the way of accommodation expenses that we can continue to live and travel for $1,000 a month on average, and that includes airfare. Yes, even in the UK and Europe. I guess we'll see!

When you go to a Mexican weeding do you bring a gift? How does that expense out?

    1. Yes, Barb says it is acceptable to give 200 pesos cash, so that is what we do. That is already included under entertainment expenses.
