Cranmore Mountain Adventure Park

We had too much fun yesterday. Despite me spending an hour on the phone with the credit card companies and banks to report my lost cards. But other than that, we had a blast! (Warning...LOTS of pictures!)

There isn't really any more to tell about the lost wallet. Except when I noticed it was missing was Tuesday evening when I went to pay for our day at Cranmore Mountain Adventure Park!

When we pulled into the ski resort to find out if we could park overnight, we noticed that they are open during the summer. Turns out this is the first year of operations for their Adventure Park. They have an aerial rope course built into the trees, with zip lines and many different obstacles to make your way through the course. We've always wanted to do something like this, so we decided to be kids for the day! And they also have a bunch of neat rides and other attractions.

So it was just before they closed on Tuesday when I went in to find out about prices and everything. Turns out that if you buy an all access pass online, you save $10 each. The rope course alone is normally $45 each, and then another $20 gets you unlimited access to everything else. So for $55 each (and no taxes!) we got three hours on the aerial rope course, and everything else unlimited. So after we got parked up, I got online and went to their website to pay...reached for my wallet...and it wasn't there!

The aerial course

Anyhow, we had rope course reservations for when they open at 9:00am. We had to be there at 8:30 though to get fitted with the safety harness and helmet and gloves...and you had to show that you could operate the cables and latches in order to make your way through the course.

Ruth, all set to start the course

They have four different courses, starting with yellow which is the easy one, then green, then blue, then black, all progressing in difficulty. You have to prove you are competent on the green course before you can try the blue or black. The entire course is set high in the trees, with many elements 40 feet off the ground. It was totally fun!

Almost there...!

Kevin, getting to a new platform. Each platform begins a new element of the course.

Kevin, on one of the more difficult parts.

The black part of the course was pretty tough. We're glad we didn't wait until the end to try it, because we probably would have been too tired. It uses a lot of arm and shoulder muscles, and I got a few scrapes on my knees and shins. Definitely for the adventurous! But, we did pretty good for a couple of almost 50'ers! Never had to get rescued, (some people did) although we did fall a couple of times, so good thing for the safety harness!

A good view of part of the course.

It was totally fun and we found it to be well worth the money for the three hours involved. And that was all we wanted was three hours because we were pretty much physically done at the end of it. Then, we still hadn't been on the rides, so we went back and had lunch with Sherman and Whiskey where they were parked in the shade. It was a hot mid-July summer day, but in the shade it was still okay.

After lunch, we headed to the chairlift. They have one open to take you to the top, and that's included in your all day pass.

Hot and hazy looking down on the town of North Conway

Then, it was time for some rides! They have a cool mountain rollercoaster type of thing. It was a blast, and because it's mid week and the place is new this year it wasn't very busy and we got lots of rides in.

Kevin, going up

Kevin, coming down. You do have some control over you speed, but it was more fun to just let 'er fly!

Ruth coming down

Fun!

Ruth, doing the bungee trampoline!

We had a totally fun day. It's not often that we spend money on touristy things, but this is the kind of thing we love. Got a lot of exercise and had fun at the same time. What a great day, but boy were we spent at the end of it!

  4. I agree with Sam - wish we had started younger. But I would still love that roller coaster ride. It really is the pits to get older and have to worry about hearts and broken bones. So glad you guys got to have so much fun. What a great great day.

  8. You guys are nuts!
And I mean that in the nicest way of course. Sucks that you didn't come up with that wallet. Bah! The hope is that being on the road doesn't present any obstacles to getting replacements for all the "stuff" that went missing. Ontario driver's licence? Will those twits send you a new one??
Enquiring minds want to know. Of course, you'll tell all anyway, so it's not like I have to plead or anything.

  10. Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. We really did have a blast. It is fun to be act like kids again. We love to challenge ourselves and keep ourselves as active as we can. We both want to be able to do these things many years from now, so we will try and keep at it as long as we can. The Mountain Roller Coaster wasn't anything like a real roller coaster and I think just about anyone could do it as you controlled your own speed.

Bob, Kevin called and cancelled all his cards and new ones will be in the mail when we get to Ottawa. The debit card was the worst one as Kevin does all our banking on line and they cancelled that before he could stop them. Had to argue like crazy to get them to give him the new number. As for the driver's licence it will have to wait until we get home. You can't do anything with it online and you if you are out of country then you have to mail in the request and then 3 or so weeks later they will send him his new one at whatever location he wants it sent to, which doesn't make sense for us, so we will take our chances and continue on.
